RE: what makes a performance car?
For a "suck" engine, the ecotec sure has been winning alot of national titles in the NHRA FWD sport compact division.
I'll give it to you the ecotec engine is far from the honda engines in effeciency, but it is faaaaar from a sucky engine.
And seeing this year GM stopped its factory support of eco drivers, and they are still putting down 7 and 8s from the ecotec block, for reading

actually i was talking about that engine not being in line with the engine out of a celica and one out of a GSR (which are probably the two best four-bangers on the market for ease and breath of tunability) not overall. because overall its not a bad engine at all.

One thing that i will say is that this ecotec is the first 4 cylinder engine from GM that looks like they are trying to get in the tuner market, look at a cavaliers engine, they have really improved. I give GM 5 years and the motors will really be something, but i want it knowen very clearly in no way shape or form am i comparing them to the civic, at all!

RE: what makes a performance car?
i'm not a big fan of domestic cars....but when you said that the cobalt isn't as moddable as a civic, i don't think they need to be. My friend just got his hands on a new Cobalt SS and he ran a 13.3 in the first week he had it....it is bone stock. Most people just want their street driven car to pull 13's. and most people end up dumpin a fortune into their ride just to do so, i'm not sure what te price tag is on a Cobalt SS but he is already at 13.3, when he learns to drive it better he will most likely get 13 flat or lower. So there is no need for it to be MORE moddable it's fast as hell
