What made you get a Civic?

RE: What made you get a Civic?
My sister had her second son on the way and got a bigger, "safer car" in her words, and she asked me if I'd like it for my 18th birthday. As much as I loved my Camry auto, my 300zx 5 speed sparked my malice towards automatics, plus it had 186K on the engine, and the civic had 100K. So I said yes, replaced the clutch and brakes, and I'm still money.
By the way yzfmik, is there any reason you're going for the r6 and not r1? Just curious.

RE: What made you get a Civic?
i switched from a jaguar XJ-6 to driving a civic, and i'm actually happy with it. at first when i had to get rid of the jag (maintenance is way too expensive), i made a vow not to get a civic because it was the "me too" car ("You have a civic? Me too!") and because of the FnF fad. i looked at a 240sx, A4's, and an early model GTi. but i found that the civic is the most reliable, best performing for the money car that i could get. a big part that sold me was the endless aftermarket for the car. i always need a project, so there is always something for me to improve on it. i've had mine for over 2 years now and never had a single problem with it. plus with my new suspension it handles almost as well as the boxster-S i drove. also i've found that the majority of civic owners haven't been the stereotypical RiCe BoYz, but rather actual car entusiasts like myself. i would trade my honda for anything (well, maybe an EVOVIII).

RE: What made you get a Civic?
I started with a Mustang, which was alright, and got an Eclipse after that. After owning my Eclipse (even thought I didn't really have any problems with it), I said I wouldnt buy another import. My boyfriend owns a really really nice 01 Silverado..lifted 9 inches..more mods to his truck than mine doubled probably. He convinced me to buy a Silverado/Sierra, so when my 18th bday was coming and I was getting a new car, that was the plan. I even found the one I wanted at a dealership by my house. Then..about 3 weeks before my birthday, he broke up with me. I kno this sounds really immature, but I bought my Si to spite him. Its exactly what he didnt want me to have. Im glad I was immature for a while though, because I LOVE my civic. Especially with the way gas is..even running 91 octane in my car costs half of what his gas does. And we got back together..and he respects my civic as a car that would embarass his truck in a race.

RE: What made you get a Civic?
With my Civic my step dad's friend just happened to be selling hers when we needed a car. My step dad's '82 BMW 323 caught fire a few months before, I sucked eggs at driving the 5spd '87 Civic, and he wanted something more economical than the LeBaron for my mom to drive to work. My mom wasn't enamored with the Civic and thought that I might like it more, so it's my commuter box now
We ended up with the '02 Civic when the issue of the Chrysler's safety and economics came up again. We had previously toyed around with the thought of a Civic or a Corolla, but I think that we chose the Civic for the Honda factor, as we have an '02 Odyssey. Not that Toyotas aren't great cars, but they're more expensive than Hondas, on average. Anyway, this was in July '02 when all the old stock was on sale. My mom got her Civic EX sedan w/a few accessories for $14,995
And looking into the future, I'm considering an 8th gen Civic once I get myself settled into my own home. That's only if a TSX would be too expensive (which it probably will be)

Well, I had a Jetta VR6 that was flaming piece of crap. Fast as all hell, but was so unreliable it ended up being towed more often than it was driven. So, I really wanted to keep tuning, but at the same time needed a daily driver. reliability + hella sweet aftermarket support = happy me.
Plus, like Mossy said, its the "me too" car. And I've always wanted to take something that everyone has, and make it completely different from the rest.

RE: What made you get a Civic?
I switched from a 4X4 Dodge Truck to a civic just this year when the gas prices got out of control. I havent had a car since I was 21 so it has been a change for me after 10 years in trucks. I bought my wife a new 2001 EX sedan for valentines day and I have always said that I really liked the civic and if I ever got a car, thats what i would buy. When I came across a 2005 EX coupe for 13,800 with 14 miles on it, couldnt pass it up.

I don't ride to the potential of the R6, and I think the new R6 looks WAY better than the R1. The '07 R1 is rumored to be BAD A$$, so buyin a '06 R1 qould put me in the same position having an '05 did. I'd want the NEW one. AND the insurance is more than half as much on a 600.
