RE: What;s the dumbest mistake you've made on your car?...
dumbestthing is when i was parked behind my dad's old 89 suburban, i started the car, left it in gear and thought it was in neutral, and let the clutch out, which sent me lurching into the back of the suburban, and left a bunch of cracks and scratches in the paint of my bumper.
the worst to my own car is strip the bolt on the upper control arm when putting in my springs, so the bolt won;t come off now without being cut off. ive done the not tightening the lug nuts all the way, and that was the same weekend as stripping the bolt. also i regret cheaping out on my cf hood, cuz this one has a cheap protective coating that takes a lot of work to keep shiny.
now the worst that I have done at work to a customer's car is break a speaker cover on a 01 Audi A4, which in the end I figured out that I didn't even have to take it of at all, because the speaker was on the backside of the door panel. that really ticked me off.
also I was blamed by a customer for frying the ecu in a96 or 97Lexus ?, but after taking the car into Lexus, they told her that my XM install was not the problem. so i got off the hook

I took a corner too fast, and I scratched the curb... well,I hit the curb... but luckily there was only damage to the rim. No real damage to the tire other than a small gouge [&:]

Ey, I've got a ****load of these.
Putting the head on my block, we placed all the headstuds in, dropped the head on, torqued the bolts down well. Then I stood up and went over to the desk to grab the valve cover, and found the headgasket sitting on top. Whoopsie!
Easily the worst was when I pulled the trans apart for the 2nd time. Stripped down the mainshaft and countershaft, put the new gears that I wanted on, put it back in the case and bolted it all up. Went to shift it, wouldn't go into 2nd gear. WTF! Pulled the trans apart again, and here we flipped the 2nd gear synchro sleeve. So, got to tear it all apart again and waste well over an hour worth of time, ick.
I've done the whole parts in the engine bay thing before. Open it to find screwdrivers and bolts and screws sitting on the cowl. Whoops.

lol...that was a fun read.....
lets see....
at my moms house i pulled up into the drive way and while still moving ripped the E-brake a little to hard and blew out my back drum cylindar.....(really sucked having to drive to my dads with no brakes)
my lugs have been too loose plenty of times....lol..thats always scarry
oh yeah! best one...
3rd day i had my car i went to the movies with my friend and at the time my ebrake didnt work and I was new to this whole "manual transmission" thing this car had so we got out of the car and I knew in the back of my mind that I didnt leave it in gear but i figured it would be ok...
I get back 2 hours later and notice my car is in a different spot with blocks under it...
i then find the following note on my windshield
"6:32 PM
your car rolled forward and bumped the white ford escort against the curb
FCPS Security"
since then the note has been laminated and i carry it in my wallet...lol
Uh...took out my speaker box, amps, and head unit and car battery to use as a boom box at a school event
and also when i first got my car my dad always told me that i should always check my oil so my car started over heating and i checked the oil....it seemed low...so i put in 2 qourts and then my car started smoking white smoke everyhwhere, out the exaust out everywhere...mechaninic did an oil change and said your fan switch was busted and you had way too much oil...and my dad gave me a funny look and said im an idiot...lol..taht was a good one.
thats it for now..i feel like im missing a really big one...but what ever it will come to me in my sleep hopefully...

RE: What;s the dumbest mistake you've made on your car?...
my dumbest mistake has to be changing the oil and filter in my civic afew weeks ago... and after 2-3days... i realized that the OLD OIL FILTERs "RUBBER GASKET" had stuck to the block... and after 2-3days driving with it like that the old seal FINALY GAVE WAY and sprayed ABOUT EVERY DROP OF OIL down the motor and all the way back behind me!!!!!!!
thank goodness i killed the motor the INSTANT that oil pressure light came on and i was just ideling at a stop light so motor wasnt under a load!
luckely no noticable damage to motor... just a SOAKED underbody with ABUNCH OF OIL!!!!!! lets just say THAT WAS A NICE OIL STAINED PARKING SPOT after i fixed it and went to work.LOL
LMFAO
but i got another bumb storry NOT MY MISTAKE... tire shop put on my new rims and used the WRONG SIZE LUG NUT.... and when i worked on my rear i found out it was the wrong size when the air gun striped that stud like it was never thier!
had to replace 2 wheel studs but i went ahead and did all 4 WHY NOT... about 19bucks new from honda in parts.
BUT AT LEAST the tire shop reimbursed me the money i spent on the new wheel studs. WHICH THEY SHOULDA since it was thier problem... they should also kissed my @ss for that mistake!
