Default V.C. Section 27151(a)

So I was driving home from Whittier, CA a couple nights ago and a got a ticket for my exhaust again. I've recieved one before but since a friend of the family is a cop, he wrote it off. But the cop this time made it a point to put a sticker on the ticket that says I have to get it Ref'd and can't be written off. So I went to go research what exactly V.C. 27151(a) was and came up with this

27151.(a) No person shall modify the exhaust system of a motor vehicle in a manner which will amplify or increase the noise emitted by the motor of the vehicle so that the vehicle is not in compliance with the provisions of Section 27150 or exceeds the noise limits established for the type of vehicle in Article 2.5 (commencing with Section 27200). No person shall operate a motor vehicle with an exhaust system so modified.

Now, I had to have my car ref'd before because of an "illegal intake" and I had my exhaust on it before and passed. So I'm thinking I'm in compliance. Opinions?

You are in compliance then, I don't know how you get it checked, but as long as you're under the legal db limit, you should be fine.

I believe in Cali, the legal sound limit is something along the lines of 93dB.. I could be wrong; this is just what I've heard. But I'll bet you my civic is under 93dB without a muffler... I'd say you're probably in compliance.

After you get tested and what not, keep the paperwork (if you pass) that way if another cop pulls you over you can show him the paperwork and you won' thave to deal with this crap again.
