the original Type Rs were just integra shells with a powerful engine and nothing else.

basically a powerful go-kart.

the new RSX Type Rs are bigger, heavier, more refined and don't handle as well (according to most forums). but the old Type R i drove today didn't have the body integrity or the suspension damping my new civic has.

maybe it's because the Type R had the original smallish 16 inch wheels and tires. It just felt loose going around corners, but admitedly most integras i've ever driven feel that way.

it's a tin can by the way. the car has no sound deadening and you can hear rocks flying up in the wheel well and every bump you go over.

but you can also hear the B18c5 under the hood scream it's brains out too. I swear we hit 100 mph in third in around 10 seconds and there was two 200 lb. guys in the car. and the car had all OEM internals. jeezis.

*sigh*

They are nice cars, a local has one with a short ram and a full exhaust and is running in the mid to high 13's in the 1/4 mile. I used to talk to a guy on another forum that had one built and boosted making around 560whp and he sold it for like $28,000. He still kicks himself in the *** over that and he sold it like 2 years ago. What number was the ITR you drove? His was number 206.

i don't know. but I do know that they put the number right there in the engine bay up high near the back firewall. I was trying to get a look at it, but got caught up looking at the engine instead.

it read "B18c5" and it was shiny RED.

the guy didn't do one mod to his car. all OEM. the car even had a leather shifter and regular rubber pedals.

I always thought type rs had aluminum skunk2 type of shift ***** and metal pedals with drilled holes.

it was amazing how well he kept the car, but he was a true car afficionado. he also has a brand new AMG c55 and his wife has a new A4 AWD station wagon.

and he used to own a corvette c5 z06 in germany which he drove on the autobahn on the weekends, but he ended up getting rid of it because he said the handling just wasn't that great.

he said it had stick but when it got even slightly wet outside the stability assist made it scary because of all the horsepower and torque that would try to claw for traction. he said once that caused fishtailing until the stability assist finally worked and then the car would slam into a straight line.

he got rid of the z06 after 18 months and took a 4,000 dollar loss.

jeezis.

I'm not sure, but I wouldn't drag race my ITR if i ever bought one. lol.

i'd be afraid i'd wreck it, and then my second dream car would be crushed.

my overall favorite car is a lotus elise/exige. nothing like all-out handling.

i gotta find one to test drive. lol.

^ who don't you believe?

as far as specs the motor makes 195hp @ 8k rpm, redlines at 8500, runs low 14's. they are more than just the regular integra shell stripped out... the chassis is stiffened, the brakes and suspension are better, no sunroof no a/c, better seats, lighter wheels etc.

Around here, used car dealers will let you drive whatever you want as long you seem mature, and actually have genuine interest in the car.
