Tool Talk

So I can't even remember what I've purchased since the last time this thread got bumped. A bunch of small stuff from Matco, I know that much. Big thing here: don't bother with Craftsman magnetic tool trays. Just spend the extra few bucks and get Matco. I have two Craftsman medium-sized trays (the ones with two magnets... something like 4x8") and one Matco small tray (single magnet, the tray is probably about 6" diameter)... the Matco one, with its single magnet, still sticks better to metal surfaces than the Craftsman one with two magnets.
While I'm on the Matco/Craftsman thing, my Craftsman swivel still has not started leaking. I may have gotten lucky or the people that criticize them may be exaggerating; there's no real way to tell. The Matco (and Blue-Point, for that matter) one is still better IMO; it's smaller and swivels easier... but it's also over double the cost of the Craftsman one.
Oh, and I should have pictures of the new box setup on Tuesday (assuming the box shows up). It's a Craftsman 40" I ordered last month; apparently the roll-away is extremely rare and they either had to find one buried in a warehouse or build one. Anyway, the bottom (rare one) is 6-drawer, each one full-width, and the top chest is 7-drawer, one full width, four 26", and two 11". Eventually I'll be getting a 6-drawer side chest (11" drawers of varying heights) and a 4-drawer side locker... I might throw a single drawer center chest in the mix, too, but I'm not sure on that. Either way, it'll be a respectable setup. Now I just need enough tools to fill it.
(oh, and at least one section of my old box will be used for snack-food storage )
*edit: OH! Remembered one of my Matco purchases... everyone with a DMM should have this... it's a test lead set with magnetic quick-connects... one set of ends is your standard test lead end and the other set is tipped with alligator clips. The best feature is since the leads are magnetic, you can stick the magnet on the ground lead to whatever ground you're using and forget about it. I actually used the leads the same day I purchased them with amazing results (door lock actuators weren't unlocking the rear-right door and the rear gate, turned out to be two smashed wires in the rear-right door (the hot wires for the actuator and window motor)... the ability to simply stick the ground to a bare metal surface and forget about it is extremely nice). I'll see if I can dig up the receipt on Monday to get the brand and whatnot; it's not a true Matco set, just something being sold on the Matco truck.
*edit 2: Here's pics of the box I'm getting (I gave up trying to find my exact setup... that's the problem with modular boxes lol):
Top chest:
Roll-away:
The side chest (most likely my first add-on):
The side locker (probably the second add-on):
(I figure it'll look more "at home" in all red... it just feels like red/black would make it look kind of tacky)
The center chest:
All said and done the toolbox will be 73" wide and 69.5" tall.

Well... the box has apparently been in for two weeks now. It's just too bad that they didn't feel they needed to call me to let me know the box I special ordered was in... as a professional mechanic, they could have easily gotten $10k+ out of me during my career. Now, that particular Sears won't see a penny out of me; the only time I plan on going there anymore is to warranty tools and/or pick up things ordered through the Sears website... which will pretty much only be wrench sets and add-ons for the box (and I can actually track online orders, unlike in-store orders). Anyway, I'll have pics of the new setup tomorrow.

Finally got off my lazy **** and decided to transfer the toolbox pics from my phone to the computer. Enjoy:
A comparison to the old (26" wide box):
And I've already started adding stickers. The bottom drawer will be completely stickerbombed, the top will probably stay as-is:

KERBLAM! The stickerbombed drawer is almost complete. Not too shabby for not having spent a penny on stickers.
(Also I polished the 26"w drawers and painted all my handles black)
And in other news, bought the following:
Matco WTK4500E (80ft-lbs torque stick)
Matco BUP2BB (3/8"dr impact universal adapter)
Matco CUP2BC (1/2"dr impact universal adapter) - on order
Some random backprobe thingies from the Matco tool truck. They'll come in handy.
Craftsman Professional 12mm/14mm offset box wrench
Craftsman 20mm combination wrench
Craftsman 21mm combination wrench
Craftsman 22mm combination wrench
Some random 1/4"dr socket tray. It's better than them rolling around my 3/8" drawer.
Sears purchase (the socket is a 17mm 1/2"dr to replace one that walked off on me)
Backprobe things
Torque stick and 3/8"dr impact universal... the 1/2"dr universal won't be in for another week.
Also, apparently this pic is life-size. Not even joking.
Halfway done with wrenches
Anyway, when the Matco rep comes back in I'm going to see what he'll give me to trade in my 26" box. If it's a fair amount, I'll go ahead and trade it and get an air grinder and air hammer (SE355 and SE906). If it's enough, I might make a few extra purchases
