It was a Vielside RX7, i just finished watching it, but i for one didn't pay to see it . i think that the best part of it was when Han said to him, "you're rolling for me now, what would think i would let you drive a Hyundai?"

Well, in the context of the movie, it was the only choice they had.

yup, they needed an engine badly, and the mustang shell was the only one in good shape, put 2 and 2 together, and you have an RB26DETT powered mustang

I like the way Meta thinks! My response to similar questions has always been "Cause that's what was in the script..."

Anyway, I'm really digging the scene they didn't put in the movie, where southern boy has to tell his daddy-o that he got in trouble with the Yakuza and has to race to settle something, and needs to use his car. It's too bad they didnt film that scene, it's ****in hilarious in my mind:

SOUTHERN BOY:
Pops, I got in some trouble with the Japanese Mob and have to settle it with a driftin' race. I need that hollow shell of a car that you keep across the street. I'll probably destroy it and kill myself fallin' down a mountian.
southern boy starts chewing on a long stalk of wheat

POPS:
pops closes the door behind him, hiding the Japanese prostitute on his bed
Trouble, eh? You haven't been racin,' have you?

SB:
stares blankly at pops

POPS:
Well **** son, up until this point I've been completely against you even lookin' sideways at a car, but but seein' how this involves the mob, you can take the car. Just never you mind the fact that this is completely out of character for me, and doesn't make any sort of logical sense.

SB:
Thanks Pops. I uh, love you.
after a short man-pat-hug, sb walks off screen

pops goes back to his prostitue, slaps can be heard throughout the neighbourhood
