Thinking about selling my Si...

RE: Thinking about selling my Si...
Just keep the Si and get better tires.
FWD is much better in low traction situations than any RWD car. Trust me on this.
Although BMWs are nice, they ARE a pain in the **** to fix...and expensive.
Maybe a used Celica. Chicks LOVE those cars. Plus they look good in em!

I would keep your SI. The BMW might be a little better in the rain and snow with traction control, but if you drive conservatively when the weather gets bad, you civic will do just fine. You SI should do just fine in the snow, probably better than the BMW seeing it has FWD. As for ice, it doesn't matter how much traction control kind of stuff you have, it's slick no matter what you drive. If you're still worried about driving in the weather, I would agree with the other posts and say get a WRX or an EVO. And I can understand that you are a little nervous about driving in the rain after your accident, but you have to get back on the horse, so to speak. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

I say, it would be a good choice to get a BMW. I'm biased though. I would think twice about selling your car though, if all you're concerned with is traction. Everything depends on tires. Also, BMW is no ferarri, which requires special tools to do any kind of maintenance. My 5er is very easy to work on and the parts are not as expensive as some might think. Although I did spend over $2k in a year in maintenance and mods (I did some reseach on my car and it's considered as one of the cheapest models of BMWs to own, as far as 1990+ cars go). I also have to add that this car is really fun to drive and handles pretty damn good for its size - I bet it's not as good as civic, when it comes to maneuverability, but RWD surely helps, because it's easy to bring the rear end around the corner. I also see that someone suggested WRX. It might be a good choice for you, but the interiors in those cars are pure crap. I think BMW is one of the most rounded cars on the road (because of their balance of sportiness, design, and reliability). The only car that compares well to BMW in this particular area is Lexus, but it's a Toyota, which you dislike. Well, if I were you, I would do some research on the models you're interested in. In general, most of the pre-2000 models have cooling system issues. Expect to do a cooling system overhaul around 80k miles (the rads are known to crack and water pumps usually fail around this time). Stay away from &-series of any kind, especially the V12 750il - they are crap when it comes to reliability. Generally, the older BMWs are more reliable. I think 5-series are the most reliable overall.

Do the new Civics have traction control? If not, go Mini.

But seriously, just get a good set of tires for your Civic and you'll be fine. My Civic is great in the rain with my set of Yokohama Avid H4s. However, around here rain isn't even considered bad weather to drive in.

Eh driving to NV and putting chains on the tires? Ever drove a RWD car? They do not work in snow at all lol. Stick with the SI. GEt yourself some sticky sticky sticky tires and youll be good.
