Sorry, off topic, but I was reading a thead on HT earlier about how dangerous bikes are. There was alot of pretty nasty pictures in there from people loosing controll.
Sport bikes are a death wish if you ask me.

 

Usually the people pointing out how dangerous bikes are have never ridden. Yes, they're dangerous if you do something stupid (something I'm guilty of from time to time). If you can control your urge to twist the throttle wide-open, you'll probably be fine. The only thing that scares me when I'm on a bike is people in cars; most of them don't look for bikes or just don't care. The leading cause of accidents for bikers is cars making left-hand turns.

Oh, and if you'd like, I could post examples of very graphic car crash aftermaths. Cars are dangerous, too. Should we stop driving them?

The two biggest things on motorcycle are the unknown and people in cars.
I've already kicked in the fender to two cars, i've ended up dragging on the back of the bike < it was wild and crazy man >, punched in a window, and had MANY close calls due to people who don't know how to pay attention to the road. G.D. cell phone should be banned whilst driving. If caught you should have your phone smashed, and your windshield destroyed.
And the unknown is for random animals that may appear, and driving in an area you don't know. Other than that, riding a bike is safe.
And you must have never been on a bike before. Once you get the wind, and hit some twisties, you'll know what I'm talking about.

But yeah, I forgot to list the unknown... but that's a pretty universal danger in vehicles. Yeah, it's more dangerous on a bike, but if you're coming around a turn in a car and there's a deer in your lane, things still aren't going to be pretty.

But +1 on the idea that you fall in love with riding. I haven't been on two wheels since about March (and September before that), and I can't even describe how sh*tty it feels. It pretty much feels like there's a part of me missing lol

 

my first bike was a harley sportster then i got a gsxr 1100 gawd what a difference
that was just to much damn bike for me.. and its not your driving you gotta worry about its everyone elses driving. cars have something to help protect you..(seatbelt,airbags, and such) while bikes well .... you wreck and your ****ed...

 

Great thing about my bike was I could have it in 6th, be crusing on the highway and STILL have more power than most cars. I could slam the hammer and git up and GO. Had many close calls where I didn't have enough time to downshift, I needed out THEN. Simply laid down, slammed the cable, and flew outta trouble. =)
The only thing I hate about bikes, is there is nothing preventing a no0b from getting a BIG *** bike. Too many kids are getting 1000+ and outdriving themselves. Keep to a 600, or eevn better a 250 or so to learn. Less bike means less power, and less weight. Its MUCH better for rookies. My 955 was a little much bike for me. I shoulda stayed with a smaller motor. =/

And reaper- you ARE missing part of yourself. I know every time I pass a bike, I still throw up my left hand. Then think ' damnnit.. I'm in a truck!'. On my roadtrip to Oregon, I found myself wishing for a bike THE WHOLE WAY. Especially in Cali, on I-5 north, within an hour of being in Oregon. Some beautiful twisy highways. Love at first sight.
Lol - you ever see a cop, and try to warn the bike behind you by tapping your head? I keep doing it just to realize I don't have a helmet on, and the guy behind me is not paying attention to my head.

 

haha, no, I haven't caught myself giving the warning yet. I have given bikers the wave without thinking though.

But yeah, a 600 is a great size for street-ridden bikes. I still don't know why everyone insists that 600s aren't powerful enough or whatever. Okay, so some of the guys on liter bikes can ride and have a ton of talent/skill... but let's face it, most don't. I honestly don't get what's so bad about 600's... I mean, come on. 100+hp propelling a vehicle with a 380lb curb weight. That's some serious power to weight. I know my F4i wasn't the most powerful thing (actually, I guess it was a pretty competitive 600 back in '01 lol), but I'll be d*mned if that thing didn't try to lift every time you shifted to second while getting on it. Besides, you can absolutely toss a 600 in the turns with no effort whatsoever.

And this pretty much settles it. In a few months when I get everything figured out money-wise, I'm taking out a $4k bank loan and going CBR shopping

Let me get this straight... you've never ridden, or have dirt bike experience (which is like saying that because I can fly a kite, I should have no problem piloting a Boeing 747) and yet you think you can safely handle a 400lb vehicle with more power than most passenger cars? Yeah. Uh-huh. Have fun laying it down when you goose the throttle around a turn.

-Accidentally hitting the horn every time I turned my turn signal off

-The safety cutoff switch (while the bike is on its wheels anyway lol). I've only accidentally hit it once while riding, and it utterly confused the hell out of me as to what happened and why my bike was no longer able to accelerate lol

-"You have a headlight out." No, that would be my high beam that's currently not on. Could you do me a favor, though? I'd like to make sure it works. Could you get down so it's at eye-level and look directly at it? Tell me if it turns on when I hit the switch.

-"Dude, you need a new rear tire." Umm. No. No, I don't. It's not a car tire, and it's designed a little bit different.

-People that think you can't ride unless you don't have chicken strips. Or you know, some of us might not make a habit of tossing our bike on its side around every turn.

-Stunnaz. Keep it to parking lots and closed roads, please. As much as I hate seeing another rider go down, when you're lane splitting heavy traffic at double the speed limit all without the front tire... you know, touching the ground, you're kind of asking for it.

 

Well, there is a problem with noobs getting 600's. The 600's like to get on the back tire. Making people think they are able to stunt, and get on the back. At least the big bikes stay down, for the most part. You have to really try to get a 1000 on the back tire.

Ever notice how most of your squids are either 16-22 on a street bike, or an old ' badass' biker? Its funny how they think the bike they are on make them more badass. And since your now officially a badass, everyone has to see your face! You can't let them guess who the badass is, they MUST KNOW.

Speaking of sigs, 94civichatchback, could you please remove that .gif from your sig? It has 299 frames, and since you post in like every thread, the whole forum just takes thatttt much longer to load. It's not that it's a big file, it's just that .gifs with tons of frames take substantially longer to load than anything else on the page, probably since the load time doesn't keep up with the frame rate (since the thing starts animating instantly even though the frames aren't loaded), making scrolling down the page really laggy while the .gif is still loading.
