Default Stupidest thing you’ve done mechanically

I think mine was when I put in a new battery, alarm wouldn’t shut off, car wouldn’t start, blue huge fuse under the hood, talked to my local mechanic up the road and pawned a new fuse off of him ,he didn’t no the problem unless he saw the car, put the new fuse in,blew it..went to the scrap yard 5 min down the road from me, told 10fuses, blew 3..then my dad comes in the garage, looks at my car, and shouts out I’m stupid...battery cables were on backwards!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IM A IDIOT!!!...all the hassle for nothing[:@][:@]

HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA, damn that must have sucked *****.

but the worst thing i did was when i installed my tsudo catback, the piping i put on upside down so when i had everything hooked up it hung really low. and when i went over speed bumps i would scrape the piping. it was like that for a couple of months until the the bolts with springs that connected the cat to the exhaust manifold piping coming down broke. then i was curious to see what would happen if i turned all the piping over the right way (which i didn't know was the right way) and hooked it all back up and turned out to hug the bottom of the civic again. made me feel real stupid.

when i checked the valves i had the distributor cap about 2inches hanging there away from the distributor and forgot to put it back when i started my car. Somehow it started, and was sparking really loud, the car ran fine which is weird

i havent done alot of mechanical work but back when i had an 89 olds 98, the starter went out on it so i replaced it, took me like an hour an a half because that was the first time i really worked on anything motor wise. anyway i got done and went to start up the car and u could hear it spinning but nothing was catching and starting. so i went and got my step-dad and he looked at it and started laughing. apparently i put it on backwards so when it kicked out to start the car it kicked out the wrong way.

i remembered something my older brother did. he was 15 and my step-dad showed him how to change the oil in his truck. well one day my mom came home and asked him if he would change the oil in her truck. she bought a case of motor oil and a filter. 25 min later he comes back in the house and asks her if he could save one quart of oil for the go-kart, and she said yes. well he goes outside and pulls the truck back over in the driveway and comes in and said he was done, and he holding an empty box. my mom was like, wheres is all the oil? he said he saved one for the kart and put the rest into the truck. lmao. my mom was pissed, she had to wait for my dad to get home to get more oil so he could drain out the 11 quarts and put the reg amount in. i dont know how it held that much oil but man, that was funny.

when i was in first year shop class me and the guy i was partnered with were asked to do an oil change on a dodge shadow, anywah the shop teacher gave us the oil and then walked away, he didn't tell us how much was supposed to go in it. well the guy i was with said "well it is a 2.2lt engine so i guess it would be 2.2liters" well we put that in and then the engine started knocking like crazy after that... the shop teacher was pissed at us.... serves him right for not giving full instructions..

Anonther thing,(not so much my doing but my step brother and one of my mechanics) when i had my old corolla, the connecter for the O2 sensor disconnected, and i was getting the check engine light, well i took it to the shop and they connected, the O2 sensor back up and reset the ECU. well the CEL went out and the car ran ok for about a wekk. so for about a month we just kept resetting teh ecu every couple of days to a week, we then hooked it to the comptuer diagnostic, and it was reading that it was running rich AND lean.. we were like wtf?? then one day the CEL popped on again, and i said... well i wonder what would happen if i switched the connector... and that was it they plugged it in backwards lol
