Default Stop & go traffic with a manual

Hey guys! I was just wondering is there an easier way of driving in very slow moving traffic without riding the clutch?

For example, today I was driving in stop and go traffic. So, I shifted to 1st and released the clutch slowly (riding it) because if I release too quickly, the car will jerk (with not enough gas). Then I will have to shift back to neutral again to stop. Is this normal? Am I doing something wrong? I don't want to burn out the clutch too quickly. All I know is that I was told not to ride the clutch.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

you will just have to get used to it on your own, I keep the car in gear and push the clutch when coming to a stop.

Is it bad to keep the clutch fully depressed and leave the car on 1st, while the car is NOT in motion? And then just let up on the clutch when I'm ready to move?

Thanks!

i read somewhere that if u have the car in gear while stopped for over 15-30secs it becomes bad for ur clutch. my guess would be it heating up or somethin? no idea..just what i read in some book..

ya i also heard its fine if your not moving, when i was tought how to drive a stick i was told to keep my foot on the clutch when i was at a stop lights (i dont do this tho)...but in traffic i just just down into first then stop (if i have to) then put it back into first when traffic starts moving and give it a little juice then put it in nutrul so im still moving but without touching anything, i just keep doing that...then if the speed starts picking up and im still rolling in nuturl i just pop it into second and go from there...

And you dont have to be bumper to bumper, you could wait a little for the traffic to move and then tap the gas a little just enough to get you close to the car in front of you. I usually switch back to neutral and nothing has gotten messed up so far.

To add to cyberx32, you don't need to hit the gas either...If traffic's moving that slow you can just slowly let out the clutch 'til the car starts movin'. That'll get you movin' slow enough to keep up with crawlin' traffic...Just don't let it out all da way!!
