Rag in my air filter...
Ok, my wife and I went to Colorado Springs last weekend. I got crappy gas mileage on the way down there, like 29 mpg! When we got like 9,000-11,000 ft above sea level in the mountains, my car was running horrible! Everybody was passing me and I had to downshift to 4th and even 3rd sometimes to make it up hills that you drive at 60mph. I thought my car was going to blow up![:@] So after we come back to our hotel, I check my engine, everything looks ok until I crack open the air filter box. A huge blue shop rag stuffed in the passageway! I had an oil flush the day before we left. I guess the guy left it in there on accident while checking everything.[:@] NEway, after I pulled it out, car ran good and got 40 mpg on the way back. I called them and let them know what they did with a pretty firm tone. You really have to check after mechanics these days. Ridiculous...

I noticed this guy had a kind of nonchalant attitude and acted as if I were taking up his precious time. (how dare I) I go there all the time, this was a new guy and he was by himself that day. I usually watch them, it's a small shop and real friendly guys, but my wife called me while I was there so I didn't get to be attentive to what he was doing. He probably won't last long with his "skills" and attitude...

The monkeys at Jiffy Lube once inflated the tires on my dad's Exploder to 50psi. The one and only time I went there they tried to talk me into doing a fuel system flush while motioning to a brake line. I'm learning to do my own oil changes now.
And when I got my timing belt replaced last year an idler pulley on the block didn't get secured properly and fell off. It got jammed in one of the pulleys for the AC and sounded a lot like metal bolts would sound when you run them through a blender.
And people wonder why I don't like to take my car in.
