is this like the same kind of thing where that plane went to go down and land but instead went to far and went off the runway?

No, planes landing off runway usually because crosswind or bad visual. This guy must be FUI. There's number on each runway and a shorter runway is often narrower plus they need clearance from the tower before take off.
