I was on the way to work this morning and noticed on the side of the road what looked like the Batmobile, yes the Batmobile. (Behind a semi and trailer) So I get to work and I'm sitting there when my co-worker calls me and says he met the guy at a restaurant just a few minutes ago. Come to find out the guy claims it is the "original" Batmobile used in the series! He said it was built from a Ford Thunderbird platform originally. He was actually having carburetor issues with it, thus why I saw him on the side of the road. He says he will have it on display at his cycle shop. (www.okcthundercycles.com) I thought it was kinda funny that the "Batmobile", a superhero's ride, brokedown. Should've got a Honda. Anyway, think it's legit?

 

i remember in auburn at the acd museum they had a batmobile look a like, i belive

im not really sure if it was the real batmobile or not, it was a while ago though....

 

the "original" batmobile is used strictly for a show tour. it appeared at the detroit autorama last month, and that was its official last show. it was being put into a museum of some sort afterwards.

the original batmobile was actually a lincoln futura concept, redesigned by george burris (who also designed some of the cars for the fast and the furious), and he still owns the original. in all, burris made 5 of them, i believe...evidently, there are only two known "real" batmobiles...the one in burris' museum, and the one that is in a museum in Ill. later versions of the batmobile (for the newer movies) were built from caprices and rivieras...

Figures.... people will do anything for attention. I read up on that after your post and it is kept at the Peterson Museum in Los Angeles CA. Thanks for the info Patrick...

i saw a special a while back, i think that it was on speedvision, and they interviewed george burris, and he was in this gorgeous carpeted garage, and he had cars like the munsters hot rod, the batmobile, and the RX7 from the first fast and the furious...

 

The site I read this from said the original that was actually driven in the series. There were other replicas as well. I think it mentioned 4. Here is the site...
