Default open coil humbucker vs covered humbucker

What's the difference between an open coil humbucker and a covered humbucker? I'm lookin at gettin a Les Paul special or a lp100. The special only has 1 vol and 1 tone **** where as the lp-100 has 2 vol and 2 tone. The special I could get with open hums or covered hums and the lp100 only has open. So, what is the difference between those two humbucker types and what is the advantage of having 2 tone and 2 vol ***** over 1 of each? Thanks

Heh, if you don't know what difference the ***** make, you're probably not advanced enough to use them properly. I'm in the same boat, but my roomate, who is a guitar phenom (owns a bad *** les paul) knows about all that crap. I can play a lot of stuff, but never got far enough into it to really hone in on specifics

Covered humbuckers are the ones with the solid plate over them

I know that much. I know what they look like, just don't know the actuall sound difference and what not. With the 2 tone and vol *****, that just allows it to produce different sounds right? Is 1 vol and 1 tone for the bridge humbucker and the other 1's for the (neck?) humbucker? So then you could have each one set different and then switch back and forth and have different sound, ect?

Oh, and yeah your right, I don't really know enough...yet.

I'd be glad to. I probably won't see him much this weekend though. He's a bartender in the City, and being as its St. Patty's weekend, he'll be a busy ****. He should be around tomorrow morning though, if so, I'll have him school me

Ok, thanks. Also... can you ask him if you can easily replace open coil with covered ones? also....haha, could you ask which he'd recomend for like rock and maybe some metal music. It'll be my second guitar and I'll be using it with a Digitech rp200a pedal and a Fender Frontman 25r. I'd just ask our art teacher since he's in a band and knows all kinds of stuff but I wouldn't beable to untill the 27th since were on spring break.

For all you people that dont know, a humbucker is a guitar pick up...looks like...

covered

open coil
