Which one?
As a good many of you already know, I'm looking to sell my car and bike and get an Acura RSX. The problem is, I can't decide which one to buy...
Here's the three I'm looking at:
1: 2002 Acura RSX Base
-$10,780 (already looked at it in person, dealer won't budge on price)
-80,693 miles
2: 2002 Acurea RSX-S
-$13,995
-65,780 miles
Okay, so my parents have agreed to give me $4k towards the car... I'm hoping to get at least $2k for my car, and $4k for my bike. That's $10k I'll have to spend on the car (maybe more, depending on how much of my crap I can hock (snowboard, bmx bike, paintball gun, etc... and car parts, of course (look for my for sale post after I sell my civic if you're interested in eg parts)). Since I'm going to be going to school next fall, I'd like to not have any bills (car payments) to worry about at school, so I'd like to have everything paid off. That means I'd be fine with the Base, but I'm not so sure about the Type-S. Granted, I'll have probably around $1500 from good ol' uncle sam soon, so let's say I'll have $11,500 cash on hand, meaning I'll still have $2k to come up with. Now I do have money in the bank (enough to cover the difference), but that's my "bills/car insurance" college fund, and I'd prefer not to touch it.
In all honestly, I'd love (and I mean love) to get the Type-S... a 6th gear, a standard leather interior, bose sound system, an extra 40hp, and an 8k redline all sound pretty good to me. I'll admit, if I get the base, I plan on doing a Type-S head swap and transmission swap, and those alone will probably cost close to $3k.
What do you guys think? Should I settle for the base and be happy with it, or should I take out a bigger loan and get the type-s? And please don't tell me not to get a new car and buy real estate instead. I'm getting a new car.. I can't stand having an auto anymore... not to mention it's nickle and diming me to death.
*edit: also, I'm liking the fact that the type-S has 20k fewer miles

RE: Which one?
Yeah, I'm eventually going to modify it... I'm probably going to be looking at around $2-3k (cams, valvetrain, i/h/e, K-pro ecu) in engine work if I get the Type-S and probably $5-6k if I get the Base (inlcuding a 6 speed swap and a2 head swap). Personally, I want to get the Type-S, but I'm not sure I can talk my parents into spending almost $14k on a car.
I showed my mom the Type-S on the site, and she was all like "oooo.... that's nice"... then I was like "yeah, it's the model I was looking for, and it only has 65,000 miles... the only thing is it's almost $14k." and she was like "umm... no" lol... I think I could probably talk my parents into it... I mean, it is going to be mostly my money going towards it (and personally, I think I could keep a type-S stock longer than I could a base model)
Also, I found another '02 Type S... 103k miles for just under $11k. The only catch is it's in Maryland... almost 100 miles away. That just seems like a long trip to make to just look at a car that I might not even buy. But I might talk to my parents about going to look at the second Type-S next weekend (this weekend it isn't happening). here's a link for the second Type-S... I'm liking it ... not to mention I'm not a huge fan of Firepepper Red Pearl rsx's... I like Satin Silver Metallic and Arctic Blue Pearl best.

RE: Which one?
well idk, with that $3K+ you could get a pretty nice boost setup on the base model but 6 speed tranny, leather interior, and a higher redline is pretty sick. I like both the colors equally, so idk, its up in the air (but i already voted for the Type-S haha)

RE: Which one?
trust me, red rsx's don't look nearly as sick as they do in photos in person. In photos, it looks good, but when we went to check out the silver base model a few weeks back, on our way back home, I saw a red rsx and thought it looked kind of off. Anyway, I'm honestly not really looking to boost the car (for a long time, anyway). I really don't want the fastest car around, I just want something fun to drive with a hint of luxury (leather interior along with some other creature comforts).
But how far (distance-wise) has everyone gone to get a car they wanted? Is 100 miles a normal distance? It's mostly highway driving, and it'll still probably take over 2 hours to get there. That just seems kind of far to me.
(actually, now that I think of it, there's two mods I plan on doing in the first year... a leather armrest (since rsx's don't have any form of armrest stock and clubrsx.com has some oem-looking armrests), and a sound system... and I have everything I need for the system except an amp and wire sitting in my room)

RE: Which one?
w00t!
Just talked to my dad about the Type-S I found in MD (a little over 100 miles away)... my mom's deal was that the car I get has to have under 100k miles... the one in MD has 103500... From the way it sounded, my dad is at least considering letting me get it... and it's only about $200 more than the silver Base model (but has 20k more miles), so it's definitely in my price range.
Now all I have to do is get rid of my civic lmao
