Its not that i'm biased towards Dell or anything. Hell i use one of thier laptops and i had one of thier desktops forever b4 i got my HP. I still stand by my statement that Dells has 0 upgradability. If you don't believe then crack open a dell desktop and show me where i can install a decent video card. Also, it only had 2 slots for memory. Just about every mobo you will find on the market has 4. Just to install an extra hard drive and an extra DVD-burner on my buddy's Dell i had to go out and buy a Y-connector just to fit all the stuff in. The only reason i didn't stop my friend from buying one was b/c he was getting a computer and a monitor for like $600. He really isn't a gamer or anything so he isn't going to use the computer to its full potential anyway.

You ask...You receive.
Obviously this is a DELL..A dimension 8400 to be exact
Notice the price...385.00 plus 50.00 to ship..$435 total for a NEW sealed 8400 P4 3GHz 800FSB/512MB/80GB/CD-RW with MS XP Home
Also included was a cheap x300SE ATI Radeon card, and 1 year on site repair.

RE: Need help with buying a new computer
Now to the upgrade-ability
You can see 4 (not the 2 you claim) slots for RAM. I bought 2GB of Corsair DDR2SDRAM @400MHz. It'll take 4GB
I added in 1 300GB HD SATA, 1 VGA 7800GTX.
No power issues...no wire issues...nothing that you speak of. I still have room for 2 more HDs and DVD/CD etc....
CPU 435.00
300HD 150.00
PCI-E 460.00
2GB Ram 120.00
total 1165.00
It's one banging system that tears up Half-life, Doom3, StarWars, BF1942/BF2 etc......
I've had no down time etc...just plug and play. My CPU before this was a custom Hypersonic rig that cost ~3500.00. That was cutting edge 5 years ago couldn't play anything today. Live and learn. Drbyers is correct. It is outdated as soon as you plug it in...just enjoy it while you can.

RE: Need help with buying a new computer
I'm an CompTIA A+ certified computer technician and i've been working on computers for 5 years. When i look at a computer, i know what i'm looking at. Except for PCI-E since it wasn't invented when i learned A+.

LOL...that was for the non-CompTIA A+ peeps out there...not you silly.
By the way this was just before my new CPU joined the fleet. Nice to have space isn't it??

RE: Need help with buying a new computer
OK. What uber-pissed me off with the Dell my friend got was the hard drive issue. You need special clips to install hard drives (wasn't like that before, you should jus slide the HD into the slot and install the screws). The Dell didn't come with any extra clips. I wasn't about to buy clips from Dell so i jus installed the HD into the floppy bay.

RE: Need help with buying a new computer
I'm not a total dell fan..just saying they have some good deals...I have one at work that bellied up. Of course it was mine..LOL New board installed and 10 minutes later I was surfing again. Look around for a good deal. There is always something out there to be had. LOL Ask me about the 17" LCD monitor I got for $5.00.....

RE: Need help with buying a new computer
my last company used to buy us $5,000 dell workstations and they were ALWAYS crappin' out on us.
so they started buying us $6,000 BOXX workstations, and they were pieces of crap for the money too.
jeezis.
