Default On my way to be ASE certified!

I passed the aptitude test yesterday for the local technical school. I passed with flying colors on reading and writing, my math needs a lil brushing up but its been 7 years since high school. anyway i passed! i begin auto mechanics classes in january.. Lord knows I need them. i think it takes like 5 years to get ASE certified but i should be working as a mechanic in about 18 months. cant wait. Wish i could go to UTI but i'm not willing to move so i'll take what i can get.

Where are u taking ASE classes that takes 5 years? UTI takes like 1 year, and if ur there for 2 years u get manufacture specific training.

dude. from what i understand, just because u complete the curriculum does not mean u get ase certified. u get that SCHOOLS' certification. u still need on the job experience and have to pass an actual ASE exam to get certified. the school i am goin to is only 18 months i believe but it will take time to get ASE. someone correct me if i'm wrong

I always said that after I get done with my teaching career, I'd want to be a mechanic. Congrats!

theres no school stuff for ASE, you just need a job, 2 years experience, and.... some money for em. you can take up to like 5 tests in a night, and be ase certified in a couple weeks. its just a matter of passing tests, that take about 2 hours each. i think theres 12? areas. and then some specialized areas. i have taken the brakes test, its not too hard, just remember that you have to know stuff about brakes on 1 tons.

ok thanks guys, i knew there was a requirement for on the job experience just wasnt sure of the times. ive already got about 4-5 months of experience at Dat's Auto Evolution and Machine Shop here in town. great guy but i wasnt making sh*t. However, the things I learned there more than make up for the crappy pay I was getting. I've always wanted to be able to work on cars on a professional level.

hey forty, there are ways to get free schooling. i found out if you go to the local rehab and take 3 n.a. or a.a. classes a week there is a place in town that will pay for 100% percent of your schooling if you can pass a urinalysis every week. for some of us, i realize this is too much to ask. heh heh. but its worth it. i'm sure they offer something like that most places you just have to ask, they dont go around blasting that stuff, or everybody and their mama would be doing it.

ray, um free mods huh? well free advice for sure..... maybe 50% off on labor for HCFer's and 75% off for the hot ones. heh heh
