well I know where I live there is no way to live on $300 a week.
People that make such a small amount have no business living by themselves. Anybody could easily make 2x that, if they only knew which jobs offered that. One of my friends does interior painting and whatnot and makes around $700/wk.
Some have no choice though, who is a single mother that gets no child support and no help from the state supposed to do when tuition is to high to go to school and the job market will not supply them with enough money to make it on. Not everybody has people to rely on and dont tell me inflation has not supported a wage incrrease when a gallon of milk is $6 and it takes you an hour to earn enough for 1 gallon of gas.

It's sad what this world is coming to... how greedy mother f*ckers raise the price of everything for their own profit, and don't realise how much a dollar here and a dollar there can set back a family. And no one can do anything, because the law favors the companiesbecause they're rich...

Agreed, but my point still stands. You can't just increase the wages - it will lead to economic crisis. That's the same reason why money supply has to regulated as it is. You probably know what happened in post-WW2 Germany.

officially now $8/hr in alberta... but most places will add on $2-$3 to that just cause of a major labour shortage
I think when i left Fort McMurray, burger king cashiers were gettin paid $14/hr

but thats the oilsands for ya

btw i'm a student living off $1200ish/month... how? i budget and don't go out to see movies, no tv, and IF i go out to a bar, i only drink $20 or so.
and yes i have a car, insruance, condo, and i live by myself. Good ole student loans w/ grants!

I understand what you are saying but dont you find ita bit odd that this country can spend trillions on other countries but yet most of the urban population is far below what our own government considers the poverty line. AndI also understand that in the begining everybody is labled as having the same abilities to grow, go to school, make something of themselves so they are not in this situation but the minute a child gets home it all changes. Not everyone has the same chances to make something of themselves, it is easy for people that have had chances and choices to sit back and say everyone has the same chances but it's simply not true. How can our government sit back and let it's own people live in poverty and preach, start wars with other nations for letting their people live in poverty. And how is it in the end going to hurt a billion dollar company like Mc Donalds, Jiffy Lube, Wal Mart, and other companies to pay more. I understand that smaller independent companies will suffer and that is why I think a company should have to pay in regaurds to how much they make.

Nobody can justify a place like Wal Mart that made in the area of $16 million in net proffits last year alone paying it's people what it does. And it does not stop with Wal Mart, the government constantly gives these large companies tax breaks. Why is it the government can find a way to give tax cuts and in the end let them make more profit but none of this get translated into more pay for the people that make it happen for them.

Then you have health care, many employers charge a absolutely stupid amount for you to have insurence so it drains that pay even more. Energy cost have went up, housing cost have went up, gas prices have went up, produce prices have went up but wages still stay the same. How is it these companies charge more for their product, are turning record breaking proffits, but yet they cant pay more. The government needs to set a mandate and put into law a way for the American people to have a chance to get better every generation and it simply has not been doing that in the last 30 years. The government would rather spend time, money, and dedication on spreading lies, propaganda, and tricking us rather than spend that time, money, and effort to help us.

Wow some of your guys need to face reality and think about the problems this country is facing. Sure everyone would love to go to school and make more money, for most people that isn't an option. Not everyone has rich parents who pay their way through school.

Minimum wage here in WI is 7.25 and suppose to go up to 7.50 soon. Still not enough money to rainse a family. I make 9 bucks an hour and can afford all my bills, so to way it's not possible to live off 300 a week your full of ****. I live in a fairly brand new apartment, have high speed internet, cable tv, all nice furniture. I own a 2000 Honda Civic with extra ****. Everything I have is PAID FOR. Every bill I get is PAID THE DAY I GET IT IN THE MAIL! All my credit cards are PAID FOR IN FULL. I have full coverage insurance on my car and insurance on my apartment. Plus I have over 10,000 in the bank.

So yes it is possible, you justhave toknow how to budget your money.

Face reality, companies are making money hand over fist, don't let them BS you. Look at what some of these companies buy things for and what they are sold for. I can tell you first hand, unloaded a truck today and the bill said we paid 100 bucks per pallet......we sell it for almost 300 bucks a pallet. So don't tell me the company isn't making money. The executives and all the yahoos in upper management make all the money.

If we don't start taking care of the people making minimum wage, than you are going to have garbage all over the road, junk laying everywhere, stores shelves will be empty. All the things that are done for you that you don't worry about and take for advantage!

While the president can't control minimum wage, he can control the cost of everyday expenses. The price of gas, he can control that because they are ripping us off with price gouging. The president doesn't do anything about it because he makes BIG TIME MONEY off of the fuel. Him and Cheney are both oil men and have stock in oil. He is padding his wallet right now because when he gets out of office the price of oil will drop and he will have no control over it!

Everyone that makes 20-40 bucks an hour and have a cushy job, they just need for their place to shut down, than they will have to face reality!

Lastly..... don't make fun of anyone making minimum wage because AT LEAST THEY ARE WORKING! There are alot of people that are capable of working that are sitting at the bar or casino collecting WELFARE!
