actually if the president veto's the bill then congress can over rule him with a 2/3s vote in both housesbut they seldom do. A two-thirds vote in both houses overrides a Presidential veto, and the President must then obey and implement whatever law Congress has passed, on penalty of impeachment if he fails to do so. The President is not supposed to be the Great Decider, but the Capable Administrator, who faithfully executes whatever laws are duly enacted by Congress. "Congress makes the laws. The President faithfully executes the laws. The Supreme Court interprets the laws." This is how it is now, and always has been, under our Constitution.

ohh and marty what about the small business owners who can't afford to pay their employees that much?

It is quite unlikely that 2/3 of Congress will agree on anything enough to override the veto of the President, it doesn't happen very often. Also, there is a difference between what the president is suppose to do and what he/she actually does. He is suppose to be an executive but in actuality, he does much more than that. Because of the partisan nature of American politics, the President has alot more power than just enforcing laws. The President has alot of say in which bills get pushed through congress. You hear the president say that he will work with congress. If the president was just an executive, he wouldn't have to work with congress at all. In fact, he shouldn't even care which bills get passed because all he does is execute them. The reality of the office of the President is that he does much more in the federal government than to just enforce law.

its like $7 here, which is pretty good IMO
Not really, IMO it needs to be over $10.50 for anyone to be able to live off it. This is what a democratic president will do for us I hope.
Democratic president? What? Only if he's a complete dolt when it comes to economics. Minimum wages don't increase because of peopla bitching. They are raised to account for inflation. Making min wages $10.50 right now would spell a disaster

People that make such a small amount have no business living by themselves. Anybody could easily make 2x that, if they only knew which jobs offered that. One of my friends does interior painting and whatnot and makes around $700/wk.
