RE: Lotus Elise
ORIGINAL: drbyers exiges and elises are handbuilt with aluminum racing tubs, minimal weight, pain-in-the-ass livability and genuine race car suspension pieces. celicas don't. anybody that thinks either lotus is an over-glorified celica needs a shrink. lol. think SPORTS CAR. not sports coupe. |

RE: Lotus Elise
im not calling the elise an over glorified celica...because i know its not. the engine is the only thing held in common. im just saying im sure someone can put enough time and money into a celica to make it run like an elise. 'cept the wheel base would have to be factored in too.

RE: Lotus Elise
wheelbase, aerodynamics, weight, weight placment(motor), downforce(exige). ....all things that will be near impossible to change. even just that last 2 are clutch in the aspect of things.
not to mention the long list of other somewhat hard stuff you would have to pay to do.. you cant change a car that was built for transportation, into a car that can beat a car created for pure performance. theres just to much that needed to be done from scratch. |

RE: Lotus Elise
I think that LODR has a valid point. It is gonna be pretty hard to beat a car that was designed in a wind tunnel. They engineered the Elise to be the best handleing car. There is alot you can do that will make an oridnary car extraoridinary, but there is stuff that is gonna be extremely hard to do. Like the civic uses a McPhierson (sp) strut suspension system. I'm pretty sure that the SLA/Double Wishbone suspension is better when it comes to handleing. Its gonna be damn hard, if not impossible, to change over a civic to use SLA/Double Wishbone. However, you can make the car built for transportation to be very fast, but i don't think that you will be able to get it past that last inch, thats where the engineering comes in.

RE: Lotus Elise
the GREATEST Lotus Elise resource site evar. Readest Thou, and understand why a celica is steak and an elise/exige are filet minon/kobe steaks...
http://www.sandsmuseum.com/cars/elis...sis/index.html BTW, this only increases my desire to own one of these cars. dammit. |
RE: Lotus Elise
not taking away from the elise at all, i love those cars, but i hold to the fact that it can be done. and only 01+ civics have macpherson struts. Im Dbl wishbone, and with some well-thought out suspension mods, some sticky tires, a bit more weight reduction, Im pretty confident I can hang with an Elise with a comparable driver. of course thats until you start adding goodies to the Lotus, then it will get harder to keep up. but i know of a civic or two that i would put money on against an Elise on a track (track, not strip)
