Default Losing my Civic, but hopefully getting a Teggy

To start off, I lost my job several months ago and have had some health problems that have prevented me from working and paying my bills. I'm 3 months behind on the payments on my civic, so I took it to Carmax to see if they would work with the bank I financed my car through to pay it off. They offered me 9 grand, and I owe 17 on it. Looks like I'm going to have to give it back and take the hit on my credit. =/

On the plus side, I have a friend who is willing to sell me his 91 Teggy with a jdm b16 for about $1500 because he got it for a great deal and doesn't have room for it in his garage.

It will be nice to have a car that I can take to the track and do better numbers than 17.5, but are they fun cars to drive? I really like the way my Civic drives, regardless of how slow it is. Also, I have been surfing google trying to find some pics of a Teggy in that body style that has a new paint job and maybe a lip kit, but have had no luck. Any of you guys have any pics of one with that body style that has been restored and looks good? I should be started my new job soon and will have some extra cash in a few months (after catching up on some other debts) and will be able to fix it up a bit.

Thanks for the support. Hopefully it will work out for the best if I do get the Teggy. At least then I won't be paying almost $600.00 for a car payment and full coverage insurance so I can get a part time job and go to school full time to get some degrees. Always sucks to take a hit like that on your credit, but it is already pretty messed up from my last roomate bailing on me and leaving me with some pretty big bills.

Thanks for the pics...any of you guys ever drive one around that year model? The one I am probably getting has a few problems right now ad isn't running, but the guy I am buying it from is a deisel mechanic and runs a small car shop out of his garage, and is going to make sure it runs great before he sells it.

I paid $19,000.00 for the civic almost 2 years ago, and since I was only 18 with 4 months on a job, and no down payment, I got a horrible finance rate of 17.9%. If you do the math, it comes out to almost $29,000.00 for the car. I know it was dumb paying that much for the car, but I really loved the car and was getting great raises at my job all the time. I had planned to refinance after building up some credit, but after my roomate screwed me over, my credit only got worse.

Well, my suggestion is to work on getting your college degree and just gettinga car that will get you around. Tuning is fun hobby... anda money pit.

17.9% interest rate? Didn't anyone tell you that was really high? Like your parents or relatives?

I knew it was high, but my mom was the one pushing me to get it so I had a reliable car with a warranty to get back and forth to work. I didn't mind the rate at first because I got the car for 0 down and no payments for 2 months. I also had a loan with the Credit Union for the sole purpose of building credit that was going to help me obtain a higher credit score, but right after I paid that off, I went into serious debt.

Basically, I got effed. Learn from your mistkaes though I guess.

Still haven't found out anything on the Teggy...should know something by the end of this week.
