I'd say cut your hair and dont do drugs... go to college and actually succeed in life. But that is just a semi-successful young person coming from experience saying that.

Metal guy... I didnt say what I said to be mean (didnt even expect a mean reply from anyone) and I dont doubt your future success... but understand that societey is not friendly, it is close-minded and there are many times where conformity is necessary for success...Saying "dont do drugs" for the sake of you passing a drug test and cutting your hair to pass an interview, is that so bad to suggest? You never said what kind of interests or skills you have, so I figured you were looking for suggestions on a career in an office-type situation. I gave a suggestion out of good spirit and just told you the same thing college professors told me on my way through school.

Moogly,
Your pissing up a rope trying to explain here. Some of these "stereotyped" dudes ARE conforming. They all conform to the look that they can be grouped as "non-conformist". Stereotyping has the unfortunate basis in truth to an extent. It still falls back to the premise of over-doing something. It's not enough to have 1 or 2 tatsF it , do your whole body. Hair a little long, no 3 foot pony tail. Some graphics or decals on your ride, noclown car. People use rebellion to compensate for lots of things. Oh, they didn't hire me cause I have long hair, for instance. Maybe? Or maybe you weren't qualified. I wouldhope that people who push the limits are at least aware that they bring societal backlash uponthemselves. We don't need to be a "cookie-cutter" society for sure as diversity is a good thing BUT if every Civic owner ( for example) could be picked out of a crowd by their looks or demeanor, doesn't it mean that your efforts to be "different" in fact made you the SAME??? We went on a cruise a few years back and were seated at a table full of strangers the first night. We played a game of "guess my profession" and then "guess my ride". It was an exercise in stereotyping and perception, for sure. Make no excuses for who you are but in the same instance, it sucks to point to other people and judge. Case in point, that show "Grey's Anatomy" had a backstage incident where a black actor referred to a coworker as a ******. And then denied he called him a ****** on national television. Could you see if someone were to refer to him as aN-word and then say it again on national TV? WTF? A lotof factoring have to go into tempering responsesin this forum since we are ultimately dealing with a very broad cross-section of society as a whole. My rant for the day, hopefully!

...whoa, just got back on the forum... who is that jerk and where did that comment come from? Stubble face? I cant even grow much facial hair so that is a weird thing to say... Metrosexual? It's called looking professional. Please jump off that cliff, I'd take this life anyday. Great marriage (newlywed-ish) and 2 good jobs... I "love" myself because I am self confident and worked hard to get where I am... and somehow I am a bad person and you can poke fun of me? Bakayarou.

RE: job
umm i drive a lifted jeep and i am NOT a redneck.
well if your only 18 and just looking for cash, car parts store like autozone are always hiring. you have your choice of fast food restaurants, waiting tables at a busy restaurant, car dealerships always need porters and such, grocery store.
a lot of jobs are around if you look for them, but the better paying jobs are hard to get if you look different than most people, lets face it people always judge others no matter what, so your long hair might not suit you finding a job but conforming isn't the answer either.

RE: job
i think if you have a true passion for something, you will regret it if you don't follow it (as long as you actually have some talent). You like music, try some sound engineering courses, or go to school for music production, the work will seem like play and you will progress rapidly without realzing you are trying (plus there is definatly nooo drug tests in the music industry haha). the hard part is taking the risk of making very little money for a while or even forever, but i doubt it would really matter.
