I <3 Fast and the Furious
I know you guys all hate the Fast and the Furious, but the reality is that we should all get down on our hands and knees and kiss it’s ricey, Hollywood ***.
Peep this. FnF takes Tuning mainstream. Mainstream = big $$$$$. Big dollas means more money spent on R&D means better products for you and me. Large demand for said products means production of mass quantities of said products means the ability to offer said products at lower prices to you and me. You heard?
It’s not just APC that is profiting from the ricers. Does anyone remember how much a cat-back was before FnF? I don’t either but I bet it was a lot.
Also, mainstream brings about awareness, and that means more information, more exposure, more opportunities. I hate to say it, but do you think we would have HCF if it weren’t for FnF? Honda Tuning would have a circulation of about 157 people.
There are a LOT of people who got into tuning because of FnF and then found the path to righteousness. Everybody has to start somewhere, and if FnF brings us another ricer to convert, then so be it. Thank you Paul Walker. You telling me you didn’t think Vin Diesel was cool the first time you saw Fast and the Furious? You were wondering, just like me, what the hell double-clutching and Spoon engines were. And I bet that you thought a 10 second car was just one music montage away.
The truth is- I like the movie. It’s not an educational film; it’s Hollywood. They have to sensationalize stuff and use easily recognizable terms. Did you know what Jesse was talking about when he said fuel maps? No. But I bet you knew what he meant when he said NAWWZZZ.
And lastly, anyone that doesn’t think, “I live my life a quarter mile at a time,” is catchy you can just get the hell out now.

my biggest gripe with it is the extra attention we got from the Po-Po. we used to go out cruising every weekend until like 2 or 3 in the morning, but now, as soon as we go out, we are getting pulled over and ticketed. not to mention the street races the way they used to be, before they got mainstream and flooded with ricers and 17 second cars. it used to be just a handful of people, and we could go for hours at a time without concerns about cops.

SNiper, you definitely made some good points.
^Best line ever.
But I do agree, you need to take the good with the bad. I remember going to street races with my buddy in his 12 sec 2nd gen eclipse, and we were usually the slow ones. Now-a-days you can't get away from baseline hp ricers that seem to think they are pushing 300hp. But at the same time, as you said, parts and **** are so much cheaper now. I remember when i was about 16, and I wanted a civic to tune so bad. I got a J.C. Whitney catalog (i know..) and i actually went through and highlighted everything that I'd want for it, and tallied up the cost. It came to around $25,000 and at that point i didnt even know about forged internals and all that good stuff. So basically it was intereior, exterior, and bolt ons. I gaurantee that if i went through and picked out the same **** now, it probably wouldnt cost half that. Thank FnF!

RE: I <3 Fast and the Furious
yea but the only bad part is you get alot of people that jumped on the bandwagon that have no idea how to put gas in there car let alone work on it. I liked it alot better when it was about cars. I remember "hooking up " my first car when only car lovers did it u could talk to anyone and they were cool. Now u got a tuner and u wave at someone in a tuner car they rev there engine and want to race and they think there car is all that and everyone elses sucks. Money is Money you can always get good deals just have to be a smooth talker and the reason why prices fell if u ask me is the internet and ebay not fnf. The only thing fnf brought us is the ****ty line from apc...

As for prices falling, like it or not, the popularity brought on by FnF was enough to get a lot of people buying parts. The more they sell, the cheaper they can sell for. Not to mention the quality assurance that goes into the bigger name brand parts. I said this in another post, but my buddy bought a body kit for his Eclipse a couple years before FnF came out, and paid 2000+ for it. That same kit, now-a-days, is probly 750, at the most.
