Ha ha. Yeah I know it was an oldie but I just found it randomly and thought I'd add my 2pence, dunno if thats rude exactly. I am of course profoundly apologetic to those members who find my actions offensive.

Tiran is right, democracy was the name given to the ruling system of the ancient Greeks and Romans. However, they believed that the average man wasnt allowed to have a vote because (and rightly so) he wasnt in possession of all the facts and wasnt educated enough...instead a crack team of scholars and philosophers and do gooders would debate on behalf of the people-enter the senator/parliamentarian. At any rate, even though this in no way resembles the democracy we know of today, that system didnt last very long. I’m not going to debate how long, I havent studied the history in that depth. Point being that modern democracy has only really existed since the French revolution, British industrial revolution and American independence, which is around 200-250 yrs.

Also duders, ancient Greek philosophers like Socrates, Plato and Aristotle would have been dead to the world because when the Persians invaded the Greeks (yess we've seen 300, huah!) they burnt all the documents, except a few which they took back to Persia. Muslims liberated Persia thousands of years later and translated the works of said scholars into Arabic, from where it entered Europe through Europeans who studied in the Middle East during the so called enlightenment period.

So without these crazy Muslims, democracy wouldnt exist since Europeans wouldnt have known about Socrates, Plato and Aristotle.

We all have lots to learn. My motion ladies and gents in this debate, is that Islamic Politics is better than Capitalism or Communism/Democracy, which is, I think, what people want to know about, rather than some wishy washy racist slurr about East vs West. At the end of the day we all want to live in a better world where people can live free, ethical and honourable lives.

Anyone interested in what I have to say can google to find swathes of references to what I'm saying.

Thanks

This should be a thread about planes; we built a runway for a project we were on, the Twin Otter would take off in 500'. Fun ride.

I disagree. I believe that different forms of government work differently for different cultures. For example, the socialist government in Sweden works for the Swedes, but it would most likely not work in the United States (though it may work with a little less extreme form of socialism). This has to do with different beliefs, different population sizes, etcetera.

I do not believe that one form of government is better than another in absolute terms, but one form of government is better than another depending on the culture and country being talked about.

It would be nice if countries would stop forcing their government and religious beliefs on other countries and everyone would just tolerate each other and respect everyone else's ideas. But of course, the further development of technology keeps this from happening because now the world is in a way smaller than it used to be... not physically, but mentally.

Aside from all of this... there is still one thing I don't understand about what you said. You said that you believe Islamic Politics is superior to democracy. Does Islamic Politics include the fact that women in Muslim countries are not considered equal to men or would politics and these social norms be separate entities? Because if it does, then I believe that going to Islamic Politics would be taking a few gigantic steps backward in progress.
