I understand that the technology is there...but some things to think about.
Look at the drivers in nascar...some of them are overweight. Now think about all the Formula 1 drivers, they are all thin and small. When the car is already underweight and they ballast it to race weight, think about how technologically oriented that is, to be competetive, even the driver weight matters for getting the center of gravity lower.

Most Nascar drivers are not overweight. There is a totally different generation in the sport now. Even though people like Mark Martin, Rsty Wallace, and many more(20 year veterns of the sport) that promote being fit. That is besides the point though. For real world performance and saftey Nascar has made improvementsfor general automotive companies for more than 50 years. The cars are advanced, tube chassised, purpose built race cars but done in a way that can be replicated by a normal person for the most part. Plus the competition is there in a major way, the sport is growing beyond anybodies hopes, and it is one of the only automotive sports that you can build a quality car on your own with a few other people with a budget and go out and qualify/run in a big race. Indy, IRL, and so on are so much more money based racing series which is not a big deal because I along with everyone know they are there to show the best of the best as far as purpose built dedicated race cars. Nascar can appeal to a much bigger population because it is based on cars you see everyday.
I feel the same way about the SCCA races on Speed. They are great because it gets closer to what racing should be about and that is a everyman's(or woman)sport. You will not hear me say Nascar is more advanced than IRL, F1, or anyof the likewise series but it is innovative, and does help progress.

I read it and seen a thing on Sportscenter and honestly I dont see the big deal, if they would qualify in a better manner then this type of **** would be solved. But as the rules stand I think they guy got what he deserved and I think him as a represenative of the car manufactor that the manufactors points being held was also the correct thing to do.

Just a quick thought guys:
NASCAR owes everything to bootleggers and moonshiners. So in reality illegal moonshine making led to it all. So saying that certain cars owe it to NASCAR is wrong. They owe it to guys doing 100+ MPH in 30s 40s and 50s era cars running from the law. Right?

Well the sport owes it's start to them but in the mid 60's it heated up the fight between manufactors which translated to faster and better handling cars being sold at the dealership at the time.

yeah, it's just fun to witness the interviews. and yeah, i remember that race, it was pretty good.
and since you think the bootleggers are the ones to thank for nascar, who started f1 racing? so then we can thank them instead of the people that changedf1 racing into what it is today? lol, sorry, that just wasn't a good argument. i'm not here to argue about racing, i just enjoy watching it.
