Default Elise falls off of car lift

Holy crap I would of killed someone if that was my car. I didnt bother reading the 13 other pages but at least ill post the main part for you guys and gals.

http://www.elisetalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30674

First of all, I did EVERYTHING I was supposed to except stick around and watch.

Dropped my Elise off to the local Goodyear shop to have new F1G3s installed. My Father-in-law is the service manager and has been for 10 years. He is out on medical leave, but he met me at the shop this morning, because he understands the uniqueness of the car.

I handed them the tire tools and opened the Owner's Manual to the jacking instructions so they would be clear. We went over all the instructions and they assured me I was in good hands.

We (my father-in-law and I both left)

1 hour later I get a call about the "accident" and that I needed to come down...

WTF!

So this is what I found...

It get's better. They said they read the manual, but not to the point where it spoke about the 4-point lift. After the crash, they continued reading. Yipee for me.

The damage is inclusive of the rear clam, front clam, underneath the driver's door, and a nice puncture through the bottom diffuser around the passenger seat area.

More pics here... http://www.my914-6.com/crap

When I was there, they had a wrecker attached with a winch to the front end so it wouldn't come crashing down. After it cleared the lift, the front end swung around and crashed into some tool chests.

I'm mostly worried about the rear structure... the puncture underneath and the loss of value of the car (it's paid off free and clear)!

I've already called Dimmit in Clearwater and they are expecting the vehicle. Goodyear has filed the claim with their carrier and has promised to fully cover the repair. Luckly my FIL was there as a witness.

What else do I need to be concerned about in the repair/insurance claim? Diminished value, loss of use (not my primary vehicle), etc.

Dammit!!!! And I have the Central Florida Lotus Fun Run on Saturday which I've been organizing. Guess I'll have to drive the 911.

Damn, underneath the car looks like an Enzo, no wonder it has extreme grip.

this is why i do my own work...or dont leave the car to be worked on..

when i worked as a mechanic, we had a guy incorrectly balance a blazer on the lift, but luckily (kind of) it fell off early, and sat on the back bumper, with the undercarriage propped on the lift. after a very precision set of diagrams were written up, we lowered the rack, and lowered the blazer back into the lift...it scuffed up the bumper, scraped up the undercarriage.

different day, same mechanic...had a car backed in by a tow truck...car wouldnt turn over. so hes under the hood, with the garage door all the way open. he pushed a welding jack away from the car, and it fell over, hitting the track of the garage door just right, that a section of the door jumped the track, and pulled the rest of the car with it...

a friend of mine took his new mazda 6 into a dealership for basic work, and while there, the car next to him was on an incorrectly mounted in ground lift. they got it about 6 feet off the ground, and when the lift jerked to a stop, the car fell onto its side. then flopped onto the roof...

when i worked for dodge, the SAME technician had three accidents in one year. first, he was test driving a customers full size truck, and slid around a turn, slamming into a group of brand new cars...a few weeks later, he was backing a jeep off of a twin post lift, holding the drivers door open, leaning out to watch behind as he backed up, and as he backed up, the door caught one of the posts and startled he hit the gas instead of the brake, ripping the door off the jeep. then about 6 months later, he sent a car out without the LR wheel tightened, and the wheel came off along the highway, while the guy was going 70-80mph...and he still worked there when i quit.
