In the case of the UCSD car since it's the most powerful car made to date, according the dyno at the Detroit event, we can't run a super low final drive or we never get the power down so we just pulled 4th-6th out of the tranny to save rotational mass and moved the remaining gears up one making 1st gear a very easy to find neutral.
If your car is N/A I suggest using 4 gears and putting on a lower final drive to top out around 80. If you've ever seen an FSAE autocross at competition you'll know what I'm talking about.
