RE: cnbc says gas to hit 4 bucks
Oh boy, the wild world of oil energy poltics! Here's my take: Much of the price for barrels of oil is being speculated on because of the developing "crisis" with Iran. I read an article back in February that stated 10% of the cost of oil was due to the Iran situation. In my opinion, our government isn't helping things with its approach on dealing with Iran. With its current path of strong arm diplomacy it's allowing Iran to demonstrate what power it has being OPECs second largest producer. OPEC is in no way an illegal organization. They have the goods, we pay the price for demanding it. As for having the government step in and doing something, blast that idea. This country has been dependent on fossil fuels for far too long and it needs a serious wake up call. NEWS FLASH: Oil is running out. I've heard estimates that with known reserves we have 40 to 60 years left at current consumption (China is eating more by the day). And if we don't figure out another way to feed our thirst than $4 a gallon is going to be the least of our concerns. On the oil corporations note, I greedily ran and checked my Exxon-Mobil stocks and was sad to see that they're still floating between $60-$65. So I doubt they're making that much of a killing right now.
Whichever one of you was talking about prices in Eureka, I feel your pain brother. In Arcata it was $3.27 yesterday, but I'm sure that's gone up.

I worked offshore for 3 years before getting activated I had one of our company man talk to me because he liked me a lot for some reason. Comapny man is someone who works for the big company that rents the oil rig form the company who owns the oil rig and supervises the whole rig. He told me that the reason oil prices go up is that they slow oil production down to reduce supply, so yeah there is a reduction in supply. It is a planned reduction by the companies that pump it such as this company. That is why they can get by, by saying there is a reduction in oil available. They can easily get it back to where it was before but then prices would go down. These companies don't want that and the ones in government know that and since they have a big hand in it and making a lot of money they sit back. So what if their assets is held back, when they get them back look how much more it will be worth in the end.
As for the price of gas only being 10 cents more it has went up bout 30 cents in last couple months. I am averaging bout 2000 miles a month on my car and yes that is 2000. I have almost 8000 on my car now with less than 4 months ownership. So a extra 80 cets every time it goes up which is more like 3-4 dollars now per fill up I am paying quite a bit difference a month. Price of gas is over .30 cents more now than it was bout month ago.

They also mentioned rationing if we don't cut back some on demand. Highway use is not the only oil consumtion. Industry uses a lot as well as farming. This could cut in to our food supply depending on how bad this really gets. We should take a lesson from Brazil S.A. , they are self sufficient using alcohol distilled from sugar. All of their vehicles are manufactured for flex-fuel. Gas or alcohol or any combination of the two. Corn and soybeans will produce the same kind of alcohol and we have it. Indy cars do pretty well on it so I'm sure my civic will too.

Well my formula has been getting great milage as of late so I am happy. I filled up last friday and it cost $43. On a 16 gal tank I am right at 200 miles and it is above a half of a tank. The way I am figuring I should get in the area of mid 20's as far as mpg. I dont like paying these prices anymore than anyone but I honestly hope it shoots to like $10 a gallon because like everything else in this country it takes a problem getting way out of hand before anybody does anything about it.

So your telling me that congressman don't get money from the oil lobbys? Do you know about how much lobbying goes on in washington? The republican party is encouraging lobbying in congress. Look up the K-Street project. Pretty much the K-Street project tells lobbyists to hire Republicans and give more money to Republicans or risk losing access to Republican congressman. Yea, i'm way off on this one...
