Civic vs. M3
#13
yeah I have tons, just youtube "civicexracer". It's really not all that beastly...I just set the suspension up right and I know how to drive. The motor is stock other than I/H/E, and 207k original miles . I get asked all the time, esp. at the BMW events, "what motor you running?". I love the reaction when I tell them it's the original SOHC lol. Some guy thought I had a V6 in it...you can really tell I don't have power on the straights. I just carry an a$$ load of corner speed to make up for it. Lightweight, proper setup, and the driving skills to boot can do wonders.

Thanks for all the suggestions but maybe I should be a bit more specific.. i have pics of the civic on my profile (I havent taken the time to figure out how to make it a sig or post them straight to the thread) but I'm hoping to have pics of the bmw soon. It is bone stock but soooooo nice. Here are a few more things I need to factor in:
I'll be 18 next month so if youre wondering how I got a bmw so young the answer is my dad. He bought it brand new in 96 and has babied it like you couldnt believe. Beyond regular maintenace it's been waxed religiously two to three times a year and has been taken to a high end car shop in sacramento to have all services done. So this spring he wanted to sell it and look into buying a new si or something reliable that still has some sportiness to it. But he loves the car and said he'd rather keep it in the family so he sold it to me for $1,000. How could I pass that up right? So thats where the money I had intended for my civic went. Since then it's had a major service done and I've been driving it mostly on weekends when I dont have school or work.
The thing that makes the decision hard is I KNOW my dad has taken care of the car and I cant say the same about the civic. I am only the second owner, it has a clean title, and its in great shape but still it lacks the level of confidence I have with the beamer.
Secondly, the beamer is a manual while the civic is an automatic
And probably most importantly the civic has 185000 miles while the beamers only just now getting close to 85000
Unfortunately garaging is not an option because my folks wont want me keeping a car home when I'm at school in Reno (stereotypically people think ewww reno but check out the virtual tour on here and I believe you'll think otherwise www.unr.edu)
Soooo...thats a bit more specific. I still need to do some homework and see where I could even take the beamer in reno and see how much labor usually is there.
Oh and one question..Reno gets a fair amount of snow in the winter months, as far as driving in it goes will the m3 have a BIG advantage over the civic?
Thanks again!

i was driving my civic in 43" of snow lol.. the roads had like 6 inches on them cause it was falling faster than they can plow it and it was all getting packed down.. Plus i had bald tires.. im not gonna say it was easy but i got around, so dont sell the civic just cause it might be bad in the snow because you never know.

BMWs actually do surprisingly well in the snow. Obviously they can and do lose traction, but it's not as bad as most RWD cars. Besides, if I can drive a geared mustang with no abs/tc in the snow and not have any problems in deep snow (other than not being able to go faster than 35 without losing traction and driving down the road sideways lol), I think a BMW would be fine in a little crystallized water.
Given the conditions, I'm changing my vote to m3. Fewer miles and meticulously taken care of? That's a little better than almost 200k and automatic lol
