It all depends on what sort of tech you want to become. You can get into MB or BMW programs. Those guys make good money and in time can even touch 6 figures. Besides, if you're really into, it, you can open your own shop(s). Just don't think that any of these options will be easy.
On the other hand, I love working on cars myself, but I decided that it would be better if I just do it as a hobby. I major in Finance and International business. With this combination there's a potential to make a bank that will allow to expand my hobbies.
No matter what field you'll be going into, make sure to do lots of networking. I can't stress this enough. I know people that have been struggling for years to find a job through conventional ways.

The problem with welding is that the job itself isn't very easy. It requires alot of skill and experiance.

I have not heard good things about UTI. I hear that Wyotech is much better. $40,000 buys you 4 years at a state university without financial aid. The $18,000 is if you get financial aid.

WyoTech is no where near my house. I would have to move a few hundred miles at least. UTI isn't a 4 year university. I don't get what you were saying.

For the cost of going to UTI, you can go to a 4 year university for 3 years (if you don't get any financial aid).
