Car Dilemma
Okay Okay so i need a little bit of advice aboutconvincing my parents to let me buy a shell as a project car. First off the shell isnt the big deal my parents would actually let me do a swap and all that other hoo hahh its just that i bought this ae86 like a week ago thinkin it would be the best thing for me and then the looks set in lol and on top of that it wasnt even running good. So my dad tells me that it would be okay if i buy an engine for the Ae86 and drop it in but idk im not even sure i wanna deal with it. its got potential to look good and also to put a big hole in my wallet. so im thinkin of gettin a new civichatchback shell or 240sx ( haha reaper i guess im joining the band waggon) and droppin in a engine ill probably buy the shell and trade my ae86 for the engine. The ae86 was bought out of my money so idk what the big deal is i just feel like id have some type of guilt forwaistingmy parents time with the car.i spoke to my mom and told her that if i fixed it and didnt like it id end up selling it and she said it was okay, i also told her how i wad feeling and she said she understood what i meant but idk. So my question is am i wrong for buying a car after convincing my parents that i was set on driving a 20+ yr. old car and then turning around and selling it to buy another one? the ae86 would sit anyways until i have time to fix it so i dont think the 240 shell sitting until i have time to do and engine swap would be any different... i could probably even trade the guy my pair of Bride racing seats for the shell

You sound young so I say to just drive the AE and fix on it a little here and there then buying something newer and better when you are better off money wise. I will say this, anymore you should probly focus on gas milage as much if not more than performance.

So basically you're going to work your *** off just to be able to afford a "cool" car and insurance on it....very smart...

be prepared for lots of headaches. finding the right parts for these Corollas are a bit tough and working on them can be a pain. i speak from experience owning an '87 Corolla FX16GTS. IMO its not worth the time and money to restore the car if all ur going to do is drive it around town and sell it shorty after. get rid of it, buy a cheap beater thats in sound running condition and save up ur pennies for w/e car u want to get next.
