I agree Canon or Nikon for DSLRs...If you want a nice entry level DSLR try the Nikon D50.. however if you want a nice point and shoot with a great zoom check out the Panasonic Lumix DMC series cameras.

Also, never buy anything from Tigerdirect.com.. they are known for selling broken or damaged products that they know are broken or damaged, hense the reason they can keep prices down! I bought the parts to build an entire PC and everything I got there was something wrong with. If you check out the consumer reports on Better Business Bureau on them there are thousands of negative reviews from them.

If you really want to take quality pictures - the SLR type of camera is the only way to go. For everyday use - I would recommend Kodak Z-series cameras. I have a 6.1mp one and my only complaint is the fact that the max ISO speed on it is like 400 which isn't very good for capturing objects in motion. I don't know about Sony. Two of my friends have these http://www.buyersedge.com/Product/pr...550&pageView=1. They take terrible pics in places with lots of ambient lights (clubs and such) - they smear A LOT. If you want to see some sample pics that I took with Kodak, let me know.

I beg to differ. If you're just going to make small prints a point and shoot camera will work perfect.

I took these with my $150, 6.1MP Kodak point and shoot camera:

stick with Canon or Nikon. Those are really the best brands in general

boooo add Olympus to that list!!

if you want to go olympus go with a Canon IS. S2 is a lot better than the S1 but from S2 to S3 theres little difference aside from one or two extra features, plus the S2 has a silver caseing and the S3 has a gunmetal/blackish caseing. They cost on the level of 250-400 depending on if you get it used or new and the model you get.

EDIT: btw the reason Andry's pics look so good is because his composition is phenomenal. that really has nothing to do with the camera itself.

btw thats a compliment on your pictures andry

Digital Camera Resource

Dpreview

Take a look at these links and read user reviews on cameras that stand out to you. I researched these and other sites for a month before I decided. Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Fujifilm, Sony and Kodak are the most common affordable cameras with solid reputations. Don't get hung up on megapixels. More megapixels are only needed for large prints or showings. My camera has only 4.1 megapixels and its more than enough for what I need. I've seen some web pics with only 2 megapixels that look just fine. Focus mainly on cameras with more manual controls, this frees up your possibilities and gives you more creative control over your photos. Good luck!

Rebel XT would be an excellent choice. Broadly reviewed as an excellent camera. You'll be able to grow into it for some time to come. Be sure to post some pics when you get it.
