Default BMW guys I need some help.

So today I was offered a 94 Bmw 325I in trade for my banshee, which I am trying to sell. So heres the deal it has a blown head gasket. How hard is it to fix? Is it something an average joe could do if they have done a head gasket before? Also is there any special tools required the stealership said there was not but a well known auto shop in the area said there was. So now everyone its up to you. Is it hard to do that with a BMW? I need some info soon. Thanks

it's simple. i had to replace a headgasket on my old bmw. it took me about an hour after trying to figure out the vacuum hoses. i'd suggest taking pictures before hand so you know where they all go. also, make sure to disconnect the battery, and reset the ecu before firing it back up again. put it back into learn mode so you don't burn it out immediately.

Even if it is a hard job you could sell it for more than the worth of what you traded. Then you could buy a new banshee and still have some extra CASH MONEY FLOW HOLLA!

take the deal. fix the headgasket (which to answer your question.. is not to complicated like dustin said) then sell your civic and tune the bmw.

What the heck is banshee? How much do they normally go for? What's the mileage/condition of said BMW? Is it auto or stick? Changing HG on a BMW is no different from any other car. I've never done it myself, but I think it may be a bit involved. Also, BE SURE that you check out the rear subframe. On E36 cars (1992-'99 3-series), except for the M models, rear subframe could rip off from the chasis. This is not THAT common, but since you can't take the car for a spin, you should definitely take a look at that area. It's simple to fix, but you do need a welder to put in reinforcement plates. Most older BMWs also suffer from shoddy cooling systems. On M50 motors (the one that this car has) - t-stat, waterpump (the original one comes with plastic impeller. You want to replace it with one with metal impeller) and fan clutch may need to be replaced.

PS. Learn from me - do not buy a BMW if you can't do the work yourself or it will bite you in the ***. It's a reliable car and you should be able to replace most of the common defective parts by yourself.

BTW, if you want - I can list just about every single thing that will probably need to be replaced, if it hasn't been already. I don't want to discourage you, but the 3-series of that particular vintage are cars on which BMW wanted to cut costs at the time.

K so a banshee is a sport ATV mine is actually in the top 10% of fastest banshees in oregon. It has been features in a sand sports for being one of the fastest bikes when I first built and especially ridden by a 16 y/o. K so now the BMW it has 160,000 miles, supposedly th hg blew about a month ago. I can do most of that kind of stuff myself I havea grandpa that use to be a mechanic as well, but he refuses to touch a BMW becasue he said there to complicated. Now I love the luxery type cars like BMW's but I am very leery of this one as he said becasue it blew the head gasked he told me water drained into the cylinders and hydro-locked but if there is water in the cylinders that probably means there is rust to. Anyone care to elaborate on any of this for me?

how much is your banshee worth to you? its hard to tell you if the deal is good or not without numbers. im not suprised that your grandfather said that, most grandpa mechanics are used to basics american motors and arnt so swave with the european stuff. normaly i would tell you to do it. my e36 has 200k on it and runs like a champ. but that motor sounds like it could be complicated. i dont know if you said if it was a stick or auto? if you really really wanted it, i would say to take it to a garage and get the internals of the motor looked at, but its all about how much its worth it to you.
