Heh. I heard a funny story that happened to some stupid woman. She went to the store with $100,000 cash to buy all of the iphones they had to resell them for profit. She paid the first guy in line $800 to give up his spot. When she came up to the clerk, she was kindly informed that you can only get one iphone per person. Owned?

When I am at home I have computers on broadband, a dynomite home theater, and phones. On the road I have my cell phone and a good car stereo. I can't use a computer while driving, though I do have a wireless laptop. At work I have a computer on broadband and my choice of music systems. What advantages would an iPhone offer me?
I can't imagine it being fun to watch videos on such a small screen or to listen to music through such a small speaker. Typing on that keyboard must be tedious. What is the draw of the iPhone? Is this a generation gap thing?

Not so pretty anymore.
And Gene.. well first off it's a "cool new gadget" and people want it. Second it's one of the best phones of it's kind you can get, so the people who are into these sort of things want one of course. I have a phone of the same sort (a T-mobile MDA) and a lot of the features are kind of dumb and useful but it's came in handy MANY times too. Looking at pictures and listening to music (through the phones speakers anyway) sucks, but being able to get online and update my livejournal, post on forums and check maps has been useful. Listening to music through headphones is just the same as any mp3/cd player. I dunno about the iPhones keyboard but the one I have (not onscreen.. a slide out full keyboard) makes it a lot easier to text message and write stuff in Word. Also most of the programs I use on my PC I can use on my phone. Any messengers (AIM Yahoo, MSN etc), games, internet explorer, I can even use Skype to make free calls.
Some of the stuff is useless but a lot of it is pretty useful, and my phone sucks compared to the iPhone. I don't think I'd be too happy with the onscreen keyboard, but I'd deal to have such a nice, quick, easy to use phone. Tho I hate Apple products typically and I'm sure there will be better alternatives soon enough.
The Meizu Mini One
or the LG Prada
already look promising.

thing is it's not just a phone...
yeah, it makes & receives calls, but it also allows you to browse the internet, send & receive email, it's a full video iPod, so movies, music podcasts etc, and it has a couple of other little features (stock checker, weather, calculator, allows certain types of youtube videos...
it's a full fledged computer that fits in your hand...
i love mine, and am not sure how cell phone makers haven't made a phone like it all ready?

Every new phone allows you to browse the internet (so what if it displays a true browser?) Like someone pointed out - you still have to zoom in. You can use just about any new phone to send/receive emails (if it's such a big priority, bet a blackbery). I also find it hard to believe that you are actually going to watch movies on that thing. As far as music is concerned, a lot of new phones can be used as MP3 players as well - it's really nothing new.

crazieman, how long have you had your MDA? I got mine about a year ago with 1yr contract for $150 after a $50 rebate.
Also, do you have the overclocker or any of the SBSH software? The over clocker is called omapscaler and its free, you can set it to overclock to 240mhz when running like 60% CPU load or more and underclock it under 30% load to save battery.
I wouldn't knock the MDA for pretty much anything except a crappy camera, especially when I consider how much I paid for it. I'm sorry if you paid a lot more!
Almost forgot, if you have never re-flashed it since you got it. There is an update you can get on the T-Mobile website that unlocks the better stereo bluetooth protocol and G Wifi plus a few minor fixes and patches. Just make sure you back everything up, and be forewarned you may have to flash it like a dozen times before it works to completion. A lot of people think that if it fails a flash once its bricked, but follow the instructions and keep trying it will work eventually. (or it could probably work on the first try, hard to tell, make sure you got a full batt tho!)

I got mine when it first came out. $400 with no rebates. It works fine and everything and I'm sure I'll still have it for a while longer. Stilll doesn't take away the fact that the iPhone is a much better phone. Even with the overclocking it doesn't come anywhere near the iPhone in terms of processor speed. The iPhone has a 620 mhz ARM cpu plus 8 gb's of flash storage already onboard.
I've updated mine, yes. I'm waiting for mobile Ubuntu Linux to be released tho.
