the only advantage the Si had was cornering and sheer fun to drive. according to them.
Price? Reliability?
well yeah but i was talking performance wise. VW has nothing on honda reliability wise.

I had a nice long post about company forgiveness typed out before the board's ASP puked on me, so now all I have to say is Forgive and forget people! companies change
They haven't changed a bit... I talked to a guy on a VW forum not too long ago, who works for VWoA. He was all ecstatic to take the new GLI out for a test drive. It was about 35 degrees outside the day he decided to take it out. Keep in mind, this is a BRAND NEW VW, with about 7 miles on it. He started er up, and the thing shook for about 15 minutes, misfiring like a bitch. Hows that for German Engineering...

Hyundai and Kia changed! Sure they don't make fast machines, but they're pretty reliable with a longass warranty and cheap at that!

I love when the German guys spew thier German engineering crap all over the place. What they don't seem to get is that the Germans can engineer whatever they want, but if thier crap doesn't drive down the road straight where does thier engineering get them?

It's called statistics

Just cause you know of 100 vw`s with electrical problems, does not mean the 50,000 other ones made are perfectly fine cars. This site may be for UK cars, but they list VW as #8 in the top 10 most reliable cars. And yes, Honda is #3 under Mazda and Skoda(?).

The VW got unpimped by the Si. I hate that commercial anyways. The cars they unpimp I think looks horrible. HAHA

The only thing that I seen that the VW won over the Si is 0-60 times. In the end Si still won the quarter by tenth of a second. You don't get a compact car to have rear seat room, none of them have good rear seat room. I like the instrument panel, well everything bout the car. Haven't seen GTI close up so can't judge how I like it's looks and feels as I can Si.

That's not true for everybody. With that said - german engineering isn't what it used to be. VW deteriorated a long time ago, MB started to go down in mid 90s (before that they had cars lasting for over 500k miles. Their drivetrains are still good, but all those electronics made MBs unreliable and expensive to fix); BMW started going down the craper in early 2000s (although BMWs equipped with automatic transminnions have been POS for a while now. This is because their auto trannies were made by GM. 5spd are getrag). Bottom line is that BMW, MB, Porsche make some of the best powertrains. However most of their cars are overflowing with complicated electronic wizardry that hurts the reliability of said cars pretty badly. This is why Lexus is surpassing germans in luxury car market - their powertrains are just as good and Japanese are the BEST when it comes to electonics

They're both great cars either way you look at it. Though I think I would get sick having to look at those ugly *** plaid seats everyday![sm=smiley11.gif]
