window tinting legality?

window tinting legality?
I was wondering about the legality of window tinting. Is there a tint you cannot go beyond? Can you do a tint with a color in it? Has anyone had any problems with cops or anything? Can you do the front? Or is it a state-based thing? (I'm in Cali)

RE: window tinting legality?
Read my post in , off topic, "Got a warning" I got pulled over today and the cop said any tint in the front, meaning driver and passenger door is Illegal. This is straight from the horses mouth. To be honest I really didnt know that. I will have to talk to an old Police buddy I used to live by. https://www.hondacivicforum.com/m_19.../tm.htm#193516

If you have both side mirrors you can go super dark on the windows BEHIND the driver. Rear sides and rear. The front Passenger and drivers windows are only allowed a UV clear covering. (NO TINT ON FRONT). Unless you have a medical condition and a signed Dr.s note.
Windshield as follows
(c) Notwithstanding subdivision (a), transparent material may be installed, affixed, or applied to the topmost portion of the windshield if the following conditions apply:
(1) The bottom edge of the material is at least 29 inches above the undepressed driver's seat when measured from a point 5 inches in front of the bottom of the backrest with the driver's seat in its rearmost and lowermost position with the vehicle on a level surface.
(2) The material is not red or amber in color.
(3) There is no opaque lettering on the material and any other lettering does not affect primary colors or distort vision through the windshield.
(4) The material does not reflect sunlight or headlight glare into the eyes of occupants of oncoming or following vehicles to any greater extent than the windshield without the material.
I have dark on the rear and have never been stopped.
Hope it helps
