tinting costs
Im thinking of getting my rear windows tinted sometime in the future, anyone have an estimate of how much it would run?
do different %s have different prices, or is it usually all the same?
also, does anyone know the specifics of window tinting laws in NY state?

Im not to sure on how much tint price would be any different from MA. but im getting my windows tinted this weekend, for 92-95 civic 4d is going to run me $200
i googled NY tint laws and found this
front side windows : must let in more then 70% light in
back side windows : must let in more then 70% light in
rear windows : any darkness can be used.
but it says its for the law that was enacted in 1991 and not sure if its still the same or there is a new one
this is a car with 50% tint. and yours has to be clearer then this.

Im from NYC and have tints. I paid 100 for my 2dr and 20 bucks extra for the front windscreen band on the top.
I have 35% up front with 20% in the rear sides and 35% rear window and 5% for the front band and i dont have any problems with the cops.

the tint prices should be the same for all percentage. i got mines done for $180 with lifetime warranty. I have 5% on the back windows and 35% on the front 2 window and a 5% tint strip on the front windshield. and i am in CA so i don't believe your tint law in NY is as strict as CA

in colorado, windshield tint is illegal. must be at least 30% or higher for the rest. we are allowed to go lower for the back windshield and rear windows like 5% as long as we leave the driver and passenger front doors free. and of course, i don't care so i have 30% in the front windshield and 15% all around. 200 bucks for metallic tint film with lifetime warranty. don't worry too much about price, ask around and see who does a good job. shop A may charge 300 and still do a ****ty job, while shop B may only charge 100 and does great work, so i'd rather go to whoever locally has a good name
btw, there are two main types of tint, both have their pros and cons. metallic should resist fade a lot better and shouldn't start showing signs of fading til ten plus years later, but they do restrict radio waves from entering your car a bit. dyed film won't block out radio signal, but they usually start showing signs of fading within 2-5 years, but they're also cheaper than metallic. this was the information i researched when i did my tint three years ago, maybe times have changed but just fyi
also, an illegal tint is a second offense item here, maybe in ny too, where they can't ticket or pull you over for it unless there was another reason for them to pull you over first, but whether they actually follow the rule is up to whether the cop is a dick or not lol. and an illegal tint ticket here is only like 25 bucks so i don't worry about it
