forget that IT IS ALWAYS NECCESSARY TO USE A FUSE!!!!!!!!
DO NOT SKIP OUT!!!!!!
if you skimp on a cheap @ss inline fuse and that wire gets pinched or the electrical thing shorts out... it can EASILY set your car into a fire ball.............
DO NOT RISK BURNEN UP YOUR CAR BY NOT PUTING IN A FUSE!
always put the fuse as close to the power source as you can!
chances are youll never have the fuse blow...... BUT it just takes once for a wire to get pinched for disaster to happen! and NO ONE likes a burnt up car!

RE: question with interior cathodes(neon) lights?
ya always use a fuse... it only takes a min longer to instal one and it could save your car from a firie death!!!!!
i learned the hard way when i was younger... wiring up a small amplifier in a friends grand am.... well for quick testing i had just slaped the power wire thru the door jam and she was rushen me anxious to hear it.... well i get it all wired up sounds good... get the amp all setup right... THEN she closes the door and lets just say all hell breaks loose then!!!!!!!
the door hinges just VERLY caught the wire pinching it right thru the insulator on the wire and then preceded to give off a smoke trail from the wire from the battery to the shorted out spot.... and then started to do the same to every ground under the hood the same way! smoking and then catching on fire!!!!!! and that was all under 15seconds.... and this wire is glowing red so ya couldnt just pull it off real quick i had to run around the car find my pliers to yank the power wire off the battery terminal while another friend grabed the hose that just happened to be thier and start spraying under the hood to put the fire out and cool the wires.... and about a min later its finaly under control.....
and unfortuantly the car would not start and run.... had to be towed into the electrical shop and cost her about 1,500bucks to have her car fixed........ if i wouldnt have had my pliers and a hose around her car at that min her car woulda been completly trashed!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and that was all because i didnt put a inline fuse on the power wire going to the amp.
if i woulda it woulda POPED the fuse almost instantly and that woulda been that.... i woulda found the problem pinched area and moved it to prevent it again.
BUT instead of a what 5-15dollar fuse/holder for the power wire it ended up being 1,500 repair bill and without the car for aweek AND NO BASS.....
but i was able to reinstal a new power wire on her car a month later for her bass after i explained why it had burned up her car and how id make sure it didnt this time with a proper fuse....
that was about 8 years ago.... and alls it took was that one incedent for me to ALWAYS use a fuse on anything aftermarket!
you dont have to have a nice rubber inline fuse piece... one thing ive done many of times in a hurry is just take 2 wires and crimp a female spade conector on each wire, then wraped each terminal around a bunch with some electrical tape and then just pushed the female spade terminals onto a fuse and then taped over it again half way to make it so they couldnt smash together and touch that would bypass the fuse.
its very crude BUT its a fuse and it should fufil its purpose in a accident!
but id still say a inline fuse holder is always the best..... i only go crude when i want something hooked up THEN and dont have any in my electrical box. i eventualy go back and replace it with a real fuse holder.
sorry for all the typing but i cannt stress enough how you should ALWAYS fuse anything you add to your car! no matter how small it is or where you have it wired in from. and never replace a fuse with a higher rating then what its suposed to have. i also burnt up my towncar that way... well not burned up but from poping in a 30amp fuse in a 15amp spot it had fried a wire from under the dash on the fuse box all the way back to the rear behind the back seat and melted itself to just about every wire in that wire bundle..... and only reason i found it was cause my gas gauge stoped working..... and never worked again. then i sold the turd.LMFAO
i told him to just check his milage when he gets abotu 250miles... fillup.LMFAO
