Default got this lowering spring qoute

i emailed a local shop about lowering my car and installing it as well and they sent me this,

It's 175 for a set of Tein H-Tech springs and they would be my
recommendation. I chose those because they're known to ride nice and
only lower the car an inch. On the Civics we've unfortunately found
that once you lower them, their struts tend to wear out rather quickly.
That even goes for mild springs like these.

If you'd like us to install the springs on your stock struts that would
be 4 hours of labor. Our shop labor rate is currently 75/hour.
Installing upgraded struts at the same time wouldn't add to the
labor...you'd just pay for the struts. Normally we have access to the
KYB GR2 struts which are a good basic non-adjustable strut made for use
with a lowering spring. Unfortunately they're currently on backorder.

what do you think about his qoute? is he right about the struts? how much are the struts he is suggesting? thanks in advance.

Anytime you lower a vehicle, it will always be hard on the struts. This is why you must buy aftermarket ones made especially for this. That price is outrageous though. Do you have a floor jack and some jack stands? If so, run to the local Checker/Auto Zone/Napa and rent a spring compressor. Do it yourself and save the labor fees for other upgrades!

Those KYB's are pretty cheap. Like $150 for the set I believe. The only KYB's Id go with are the AGX's, they are much better and fully adjustable (although you wont be adjusting your ride that often). When I say adjustable, its stiffness, not ride height.

Not entirely true SevenK. While it is hard on the struts, Tein has specifically developed their springs, especially the stechs, to work with the stock struts. It wo uld be advisable to but aftermarket ones but not entirely necessary. Best struts are probably the konis. or bilstein, but tahts a bit pricey. 175 for the springs is really high though

also, renting a spring compressor from those places is worthless, such a hassle. I would at least go to the honda dealership and buy repllacement lca bolts that attach to the strut assembly. chances are youll break them. Have fun gettin them out

Oh, right on. So are the Tein S's the only springs made for oem struts? If so, I may just buy those and keep my original struts. Then I can save a chunk of change!

Thats expensive. Try to do it yourself. Think about it.....$300 for installation? Thats like ten full tanks of gas.

yea but you didnt break an lca bolt...but it shouldnt take a shop 4 hrs. After the bolts got taken out, i did it in roughly an hour and a quarter for my first time
