Functional Hood Scoop
#12
Personally, I still think a Civic has no business with a hood scoop, functional or not, for the rice factor. The Civic was meant to be a 4 banger econo box unless you build it then turbo or supercharge. The tiny gains you might see from a N/A engine with a hood scoop would not be worth the effort to design and implement such a mod. A Honda 4 cylinder engine is just too small.
They work great with big block V8s because the engine is huge and forcing air through one will give you noticeable results. Those results are not duplicated when you take half the engine away.

I wouldn't bother trying with a 4cyl. The engine isn't big enough, nor will it look remotely good.
Even on modern muscle cars, the ram air effect is minimal. For example, look at the Mach 1 Mustang:
That hood scoop might look pretty, but any mustang owner will tell you it's little more than an aesthetically pleasing CAI. The thing is, even if you have the ram air effect at the scoop, the effect is going to be reduced by the time the air makes its way past the bends in the intake on its way to the throttle body. Ram air and shaker hoods worked great on carb'd cars since the air filter sat right under the scoop. On late-model cars, anything like ram air is more or less for aesthetics.
