Default Secondary O2 Sensor Problem....i think.

I finally decided to extend my secondary O2 sensor to my header, and my check engine light is still on. I used 16 gauge wire to extend the wires and i think the 4 wires in the sensor itself are 18 gauge. I sealed all the extensions up good with caps and silicone sealant so no water can get it and i zip tied them all out of the way, and i extended all the right wires to the correct wires, but the CEL is still on. Is this just because im getting more exhaust flow than normal? Or is there something else i can do that will correct this problem?

You could always get a o2 simulator, thats what i did and still haven't had a CEL for about 5 months now.

Thanks for the post, FlipHKD720, I've had a similar problem for the past couple months. I installed my header, testpipe, and exhaust all at once, but didn't throw the CEL until about 100 miles after they were on. Then I tightened up some of the gaskets cause I noticed they were a little loose (and I forgot the donut gasket...oops, so I put it on). I reset the ECU and it was fine for about 5 seconds, then Blamo, back on. I figure this is because of the fact that my secondary o2 is picking up on the discrepancy between it and the primary o2 (I'm not running the cat, so therein lies the CEL problem I believe). I see you say that you have a DC race header. If this eliminates the cat, that may be your problem as well.

So, Talon585, tell me more about this o2 simulator that you speak of.

Ok, the o2 simulator that I have basically plugs in between the second o2 sensor harnesses. Chimera hooked up with this product and it works. What it does is when the ecu checks that second o2 sensor it hits the simulator and tells the ecu that its running fine and it loops back to the ecu. It never actually checks the second o2 sensor now. All that o2 sensor does is tell the ecu if the catalayic converter is bad or not. Ill post the link to the company. You got any more questions just pm me or ill check this thread. Later
