What's the deal with the V2, is that a cai or a short ram? What's an air bypass valve and is it worth getting one...?
from your pic I'm guessing you have a 6th gen, so do I and I have the V2 intake. It picks up cold air from behind the bumper, click on my gallery for pictures. I felt a huge difference when I installed it, compared to stock. FYI you CAN'T get an air bypass valve for that intake.

In my opinion cold air is cold air, AEM you're paying a lot for the name, injen is just about as good in my book...I plan on buying an injen so i can't truely vouch for either

lol your paying for the name? No. Either way you are paying for R&D and $hit, INJEN is way more expensive. Go for AEM. The End.

Id go with the AEM cold air, its what Ive got. Injen isnt bad, but I havent heard one bad thing about AEM.

As for a bypass valve, Im not too worried about hydrolock. I dont drive into too many oceans.

by pass valves help out in heavy rain and wind also.
Yeh, maybe during hurricane season with 180mph winds and 6 feet of water.

CAI + bypass valve = -3-4 HP = SRI.

Go AEM cold air intake, and forget that bypass valve nonsense (it robs power anyways). I feel that the hydrolock thing is a marketing ploy for them to sell bypass valves, if anything. I researched this and have spoken to several mechanics on the issue when I was deciding on intakes, and they told me you would literally need to submerge your front in deep water before even considering hydrolock as an issue.

Needless to say, I went with an AEM CAI (sans bypass valve) and love it so far. Improved feel/breathing throughout the powerband, and awesome noise above 3500 RPM. I've driven through some decent sized puddles and endured some big rainstorms, and everything works perfect.

yeah, i wouldnt worry about the by-pass valve unless you make it a habit of driving through 16"+ of water. I can vouch for AEM, as thats what i have, and i love it.
by pass valves help out in heavy rain and wind also.
huh? how? it ONLY opens when the filter is completely submerged in water.

I guess he figures if it rains hard enough, that enough water is getting on the filter for it to get sucked up...

Exactly...

I did some reading this past weekend. Import Tuner had a 98 EX in the power pages, and they added an Intake, Header, and Cat-Back. Check this part out about the Intake. Granted, it was an SRI, NOT A CAI.

BASELINE -
Horsepower: 106.1
Torque: 94.0

After Intake Install

Temperature
Air temperature @ 69.5 degrees Fahrenheit
Temperature difference from previous run: +2.5 degrees Fahrenheit

2000 to 3500 HP range: -3 to 0
3500 to 5500 HP range: -1 to 3
5500 to redline HP range: -1 to 4

2000 to 3500 TQ range: -8 to 0
3500 to 5500 TQ range: -1 to 5
5500 to redline TQ range: 0 to 3

Peak Horsepower: 109.3
Peak Torque: 95.8

My point of course is that in all actuality, with a by-pass valve, you're probably losing power.
