D16Y8 exhaust manifold on a D16Y7 head?
i was wondering if the bolt patterns on the y7 & y8 EMs are the same. i have a y7 and i want to put intake/exhaust manifolds on it from a y8. i already know that the IM will work, but will the EM work? i want to turbo my car in the future, so i wasn't sure if the kit would fit w/ a y7 EM & a y8 IM. thanks

i was wanting to put a turbo kit designed for an ex civic on the y7 to match the y8 intake manifold. so will the exhaust manifold from the turbo kit, which is designed for the y8 head, fit the y7 head? sry i didn't explain it all the way thru

but still will an aftermarket header built for a Y8 fit to a Y7. I don't wanna go forced induction I prefer NA. I heard that if you get a Y8 header you also need a Y8 exhaust due to the radically different header design. ( that close coupled cat is so retarded, I realize its there for emisions since a hot cat is a good cat and the sooner it lights off the better but, just grrr.....)

dumb question[sm=bangbang.gif]i'm asuming that the exhaust for the y8 (or an aftermarket unit) won't have any fitment issues w/ the exhaust hangers or rear bumper wil it?

Oh, haha. Okay, gotcha. Little misunderstanding. I thought you meant the stock Y8 EM. Yes, the turbo mani for the Y8 will fit on the Y7. I know this because EX's have Y8's and I'm planning on getting an EX header. I'll answer each of you seperately to reduce confusion:
gofaster: Yes the Y8 header will fit the Y7, that's what I plan on doing. And yes, you will need a full EX exhaust. I completely agree with you that the header mounted cat is very bothersome. And I don't believe that any company makes a bolt on kit for the LX (what I have) and whichever other model had the header mounted cat. I'm also sticking to N/A for now, but that's just until I can afford a turbo kit.
tools52: Same answer for you, the Y8 mani that comes with the turbo kit will fit your Y7 no problem. (I really don't know what the difference is between the two, other than the Y8 having VTEC, that might be it) After you put the EX turbo kit on, you'll NEED to do an EX exhaust because your cat will have nowhere to go. Plus, you'll definitely want your motor to breath better with the turbo, so aftermarket is the way to go. And to answer your other question, no, I'm pretty sure there will be no fitment issues with the hangers and such. It's just the location of the cat that is different.
Now, the only aspect of this that I'm not certain on is how to mount the cat between an EX header and an EX exhaust. I'm not sure if it does, but if the cat has flanges on it, I'm guessing you could just bolt it inbetween.
I'm definitely no expert on this matter, but I have been researching it A LOT lately because I want to do the header and exhaust soon, and the LX makes this a HUGE pain in the butt. I hope I helped, but if not, I hope somebody who can will respond to help us all out.

RE: D16Y8 exhaust manifold on a D16Y7 head?
88-00 sohc d-series engines share the same bolt pattern on the intake and exh manifolds. the dohc zc shares the same exh but different intake mani pattern. since your intentions are to turbo and if your not willing to do an intake manifold swap, you can buy an elbow to use the y8 kit on your y7(elbow to the tb).
