Question burning smell from Apexi WS2 exhaust

I just installed an Apexi WS2 exhaust on my 95 EX yesterday. I double-checked the connections & tightness, & it sounds great, but I'm noticing a pretty strong burning smell. I did have to take off the catalytic converter so I could access that top bolt (the heat shield was in the way). Is this normal for a new exhaust, or is it maybe the catalytic converter? Or something else?

Thanks

It didn't look like the pipes were touching anything they weren't supposed to be, but I'll double check. The tail pipe has got a little less than 1/2" spacing between it & the bumper, so that's ok.

I did put the cat back on. I couldn't get the existing exhaust pipe off that was attached to the rear of the cat because of that 3rd bolt at the top of the flange, so I disconnected the cat from the exhaust manifold. After pulling that whole section of pipe & cat out, I was able to disconnect the cat & then I reinstalled it with the new exhaust system.

did you use WD40 or some lube on the hangers? it could be as minor as the wd40 is on the pipe and burning off. if thats the case it will go away shortly!

sometimes just the fact that the exhaust is new makes a burning smell. the oil on the inside of the piping that the manufacturer put there might just be burning off. it will go away

^^^Agreed, sometimes, depending on what polish is used, or any other coating, it could just be that burning off creating the smell. My friend installed his Apexi N1 the other day and had a similar smell. I had a smell after installing my GReddy EVO2 Catback

Thanks for all the input! The smell is definitely not as bad as it was when first installed...
