Default 150,000 Miles...

I’m 16 and I just got my 1992 Honda civic hatchback Si. Its got 150,000 miles on it and after I get some wheels and lower it with new suspension im planning on doing a basic I/H/E setup on it. My question is if that’s a good idea or not? Since the car has 150,000 miles on it. I don’t know if its to old for daily driving with the occasional race every now and then. (On the track of course). As for the cars condition its only had one owner before me and it was some old man. The interior and exterior is in great condition and as far as I know the engine is too. So is my engine race ready? or is it too far gone? Aside from that is there anything I can do to bring down the miles a little bit so I can do a I/H/E setup?

pretty sure that cars got the D16z6 in er. Get yourself a Haynes manual and do a leakdown and compression test. That will tell u how the motor is holding up. Welcome to th foru,

yes its a good idea. my 95 EX has about 165k miles on it and i installed a cat-back and new headers in the past few months and i am very very soon going to buy an intake. theres no problem with them and the power gains are really great. as long as the engine and everything else is in good shape then I/H/E is no problem. honda's are built to last so dont worry about it. as long as u keep good care of ur car and dont push it to hard to many times, then ur good to go. good luck and have fun!

on an engine that old? no offence but i would think twice about putting an intake on it. if anything put a new power plant to insure a long lasting ride. all im saying is if it were me i wouldnt want to work the valves to hard on an engine that old.

dj_ipirate what do you mean about not putting an intake on it? And what do you mean by a new power plant? Like a new engine?

yes a power plant would be the engine... and what i was saying is, if the engine has seen quite a few battles than i would think twice about putting a cold air intake on it. reson is, the more air flow going into the engine (lets just say more than stock) the harder it is on the valves. imo i wouldnt do it.

150k really isnt that much on a civic. thats like 50-70 on most domestic cars. its prolly at about its halfway point in its life

he said its going to be for daily driving and occasionaly racing so theres nothing to really worry about. as long as u dont run high rpm's for long periods of time then u'll be fine. remember, if u take good care of ur car, it'll take care of u.
