Windshield frosted up on the inside

Windshield frosted up on the inside
So up here in Michigan for the last 4 or 5 days, it has literally been -10 to -20, before windchill. Needless to say its been unbearably cold and you can barely stand outside, even when bundled up wiht 3 to 4 layers, hats and gloves. Anyway, whenever i get into my car, my windshield is ALWAYS iced up on the inside. Sometimes there's hardly any frost on the outside, it's all on the inside. What is this from? I don't care if its a dumb/noob question. What can i do to stop this? I have to start my car 15-20 minutes early every time i want to go somewhere. I have a crack in my windshield thats getting bigger and bigger...does that have anything to do with it?

In northern Illinois we run into the same problem. You need to dry out the inside of the car and keep it dry. Not too easy this time of year. Every time you get into the car your shoes track in snow or water. When you breathe inside the caryou exhale moisture too. It's worse when you carry passengers, because you get even more moisture. When the car cools off all the moisture has to condense somewhere, and since the windows cool fastest, it collects there as ice.
Luckily I have an attached garage that seldom goes below freezing.

I don't think the crack will allow any extra moist air in, or make the ice worse, but the crack will keep spreading with the heating/cooling cycles you're putting the windshield through every time you drive your car and then park it and it cools off. I had a pretty big rock chip in the windshield of my Suzuki; it started as a little star shaped kind of chip, and then the next morning I started it up and as it was warming up a crack spread from the chip all the way across the entire windshield. Luckily it was across the bottom of the windshield and out of my field of view.
