Ok first off 100 pounds will shed more than 0.1 seconds off your 1/4 mile time. That is relative to how fast your car is. Second, these mustangs you speak of are probably primarily automatics and they are all rear wheel drive, making them lose quite a bit of power through thier very inifficient drivetrain. All this makes a civic and a mustang alot closer in terms of ability to accelerate than you might think. Yes a mustang will rape a civic any day of the week but give me a $2,000civic and $2,000 for mods and I'll put a mustang with mods to shame any day. Keep in mind you can build a d series motor for 400whp with under $1,000 and a good turo setup for probably about the same. In the end I have a 400whp civic for $4,000 and they have a slow heavymustang forabout $35,000.

a $1,000 is worthless without a tune which will most likely cost you dearly for a very good one. plus, chances are, it won't be entirely reliable. but it can be done.

Well building a d series bottom end with vitaras and tuner toys rods will set you back about $400-$500 so my $1,000 estimate was very generous. I had my car tuned at central florida turbo for $395 by extremely reputable profesionals. A turbo setup for a d series could easily be put together for $800 so if I was on a very tight budget I could put together a 400whp civic for around $3700. I dont understanding tuning enough yet to do it myself but if you did you could save yourself even more money. Regardless my point stands that for under lets say $5,000 you could have a 2,200 lbs civic with 400whp that would basically rape anything in town. Would it be as nice as a $35,000 mustang? No! But to answer the question at hand, yes you could take just about anything in townpretty cheaplyin your civic if you know what your doing and do it right.

It would have to be a stripped outEG6 hatchback to keep the weight right down and something like amodified turbo K20 or H22 conversion running a decent amount of boost.

...

200whp in a Civic is more than enough to beat most bolt on Mustangs, which can be had for much less than a turbo K20.

If you want to talk about a car to beat, talk about the GT500 or the Z06.

Actually in stock form the gt500 only runs mid-high 13's. The z06 can make high 12's but both can still be beat with a quick d series mostly due to the lack of weight. A stripped eg hatch would probably be close to 2,000 lbs.
