Default question about changing oil filter with synthetic

I put synthetic in last time around and I'm planning on changing it around 6 ot 7k, but obviously still changing the filter every 3k. So here is my question... how the heck do I change the filter without spilling all (or a lot) of the oil?

On my old car a lot of oil spilled out the side whenever I was changing the filter, and that was even after I had drained the oil, so I'm just guessing that it would work the same way on the civic, but last time when I changed the oil, after draining, not much if any oil seemed to come out when I removed the filter. Will the oil stay in if I'm just changing the filter?

Sorry if this all sounds retarded but I've never had an occasion to change the filter before without doing the oil too, so this is new to me.

Quick answers much appreciated, as I'd like to do this tonight if possible (been putting it off, am 600 or 700 miles overdue for a filter change [:@] )

You shouldn't need to change your filter before changing your oil.

well its hard man, just make sure uve got an extra quart of oil when u are changing the filter. YOU SHOULD change the filter before the oil if ur using a good synthetic oil. However, if u spend a few extra bucks on a mobile 1 or K&N oil filter, then u can go 7500 on both.
