Default Question about 06 LX Civic Sedan Gas Mileage?

I want to buy a 2006 LX Sedan with the automatic tranmission for the gas mileage. But I have been hearing that they aren't getting good gas mileage. They are supposed to get 30 to 40 mpg, but people have been posting only about 22 to 25 mpg. If someone has a 2006 and knows there gas mileage plz post. Thank you.

I have had my '06 EX auto for 9 months, do mainly around town driving with a little hwy too. I average 34-35, the worst ever was 32 and that was "getting on it" alot that tankfull. I calculate my milage every fill up, the 34-35 is extremely consistant. Checkin the milage is like a game for me since my last car was a '00 Trans Am.

same here 34- 36 and its been over 100 everday this week. these people who are reporting low 20's either don't know how to check fuel mileage or can't drive.

Respectfully, you can't compare the Si models to the rest of the Civic line. They are completely different cars. The Si is in a higher state of tune and makes more hp. It's not going to get the mileage as the LX/EX models will and the LX/EX models won't be as fast.

Bakedog31, you'll get the mileage if you drive it right. Keep you foot in it and you won't be seeing 30 something fuel economy. I've got an '06 EX sedan and it's been running between 31 and 32 mpg consistantly so far. That's about a 60/40 city/highway split running the AC pretty much 100% of the time. It's hot around here!

FWIW!

Good luck,
Steve R.

Amen, Brother. It's like finding a new Geek Engineering Religion--especially when you stop at the pump!

My milage that I posted is with the A/C too since I live in Florida. Also if I sqeeze as much gas in as I can (right up to the top of the neck), I get over 500 miles on a tankful. When the last bar goes out on the gauge, there is still a little over 2 gallons left in the tank.

I'm actually very upset with the gas mileage on my 2006 LX. (Automatic).

I pretty much do highway driving exclusively 90% and commute about 20 miles to work each way.

I drive at around 60-65MPH with slow accelleration and braking. I even use my cruise and replaced my air filter. I'm at 18,000 miles, so I'm well past broken-in.

I get a measley 325 miles per tank and average 28 MPG.

I've brought my civic in to the dealership and they say nothing is wrong an it must be my driving. I can tell you - I do not accellerate hard or brake hard at all. A buddy of mine has the exact same model and does the same commute. He gets 40MPG.

I have noticed that my engine seems to "stutter" slightly when cruising in 5th gear at around 1700 RPM - almost like it wants to change gear but cant. Dealer tells me I'm imagining things (But wants to get me into a new 2008 accord - yeah that will solve my problems!).

This is pissing me off so much, I'm considering gettin rid of the damn thing. I got better mileage on my old 2002 CRV!!!!

What is a guy to do?

Check your spark plugs, nicko. They may be fouled or improperly gapped.

The local Honda dealer says most folks here locally (northern Illinois) are claiming 28-30 MPG. Go to your local dealer and look at the revised mileage sticker on the '08 Civic. Your 28 MPG would fall in with those new estimates.

A buddy of mine has the exact same model and does the same commute. He gets 40 MPG.
He's just blowing smoke at you. Ask to see his mileage log. If he does not produce one don't be surprised.

Considering it was a lighter car with a smaller motor, that is not surprising.

Enjoy driving your excellent '06 Honda Civic. You purchased a fine car.

I proudly own an '06 LX manual. In warm weather I average 36-38 MPG, but now that the weather has turned I have dropped to 31-32 MPG. I practice extreme techniques to accomplish those figures. I coast down hills in neutral, try never to touch the brake when I am going faster than 25 MPH, coast up to lights, shift up at no more than 2K rpms, and turn off the motor at long lights. If I am on a Sunday cruise on back roads with no traffic, I can get the 40 MPG, but that is the exception and not to be expected in day to day driving. If I didn't pretend I was Marcos Ambrose at a V-8 Supercar race occasionally, my mileage might be even better. Lol....
